That was the White City tornado in Worcester, June 9, 1953. I remember as a kid, the family driving out there to gawk at the damage. It was an F4.

CT’s gotten a few. Here’s a sampling:

July 29, 1971: An F3 (some sources say F2) moved along Main Street in downtown Waterbury, unroofing a factory and damaging some houses. Two people were injured.[56][43]
* July 10, 1989: The Northeastern United States tornado outbreak of 1989 produced at least three tornadoes in Litchfield and New Haven Counties, causing more than $100 million in damage. The first tornado, possibly a family of three tornadoes, destroyed Cathedral Pines Forest, and caused F2 damage to trees and homes in Cornwall, Milton, and Bantam, injuring four people.[60] The second tornado, also an F2, unroofed or severely damaged 50 homes and injured 70 people on a path through Watertown, Oakville, and northern Waterbury. The final tornado was one of the worst in Connecticut history, cutting a 5-mile (8 km) path through Hamden. The F4 destroyed almost 400 structures and injured 40 people. No one was killed by these devastating tornadoes, though a girl was killed when straight-line winds blew a tree onto her tent.
* June 29, 1990: An F0 briefly touched down in Danbury. Seven people were injured by flying glass.[11]

I'm in Okla. Most times we have plenty of warning, if one listens to the weather, that is. If not one can get caught out and nothing to do but keep driving, away from it that is.

I had such an experience 2 yrs. ago. Beautiful day, warm, weatherman did not have any danger for that day to tell us. WELL then, there, now,

I was driving home on I40, looked ahead at a massive black cloud. WHAT THE HEY is that, oh my gosh, turned on the radio, yep, Tornado coming.

We were going pretty fast and about to turn North off the interstate, my husband said keep going. Oh boy. Turning north left the cloud now behind us. Then it started to rain, BIG HAIL bombarded my truck. We were now fully committed, no were to stop for cover. Made it home finally with large dents in truck.

That's how it happens sometimes. We have the great Gary England of the movie "Twister" for our weatherman, best in the country, but this one stumped him as well, didn't see it coming.

Thanks for the heads up. My son is working in Cambridge this summer and is walking around Boston today. I’ll send him a text.

My sister is a forecaster with the national weather service and I’m trying to get a hold of her for some insight.

Tell her to stop typing everything in ALL CAPS.

She told me brain trust that runs NOAA thinks folks will pay more attention if it's ALL CAPS. I guess if they put in BOLD letters we're really screwed.

No I think it’s somewhere in the purple. My folks live in Livermore so thank god it went south of them.

Looks like the watch has been cancelled everywhere up here except for southern NY and a county in CT.
