The 1892 is claimed to be the best. I've never owned one

Also check out the Bounty Hunter.
It's available in .45LC, .44-40, and .44 Mag for S1,250.00.

You might consider a Puma Model 92 in .454 Casul.

But the better caliber is 45-70. For example look at this

In as such as a lever gun goes I like my Marlin chambered for .357 magnum or any combination of .38specials. Just cannot use a sharp pointed bullet unless its the new “lever” bullets that have a soft polymer tip.

Reference the .44 mag, Taylor's & Co., Inc. is located at Winchester, VA 22603.
You might E-mail them at "info@taylorsfirearms.com" and asked if they'll build you one of those rifles in .44 mag.

Personally, I wouldn't consider 500 year old Middle English "trendy", but maybe that's just me. ;)

Several years ago, a friend bought one of the Uberti 1873 rifles for Cowboy Action Shooting. It was pretty, but the lockwork was poorly fit and it jammed frequently. Hopefully they have corrected the problems, but every Uberti I’ve ever handled demonstrated poor fit and poor metallurgy. I stopped handling them several years ago due to their quality.

Thanks for the info! Although having one built sounds tremendously expensive....

Re: Ruger .44 Carbine

I've got one of those. It's a "25th Anniversary Commemorative Model", which I got for my 25th birthday (way back when). Has a commemorative coin in the stock.

I love it. It's a tack-driver at 100 yards, and a nice, quick carbine.

Goes nicely with my Super Redhawk.

Cost, do you really want to get expensive, and have a true collector's rifle, worth passing along to your family?

Let's get stupid.

“Seems like it would make a decent short range deer gun.”

Not to mention a good short-range thug gun.

There is always a Marlin M1894 - that’s my “companion.”
Its lot cheaper than a Uberti, too.

Nice. If it were a question of spending a lot of money I’d save a few decades and get an original. Either way I’d have to take up handloading- most of the cartridges for those ain’t at Wal-Mart....
