I seem to recall that Michael Savage (nee Weiner) was a stone cold, long haired, liberal hippie out of Berkeley when he hit the job market - and it hit back. It seems that all his street cred as a born in New York, West Coast liberal couldn't hold a candle to affirmative action. His world view imploded and from the ruins rose the egocentric conservative who loves to pontificate on the evils of liberalism.

I met a very annoying Jewish woman at a funeral this weekend. She recently completed her medical residency as a surgeon, and is now seeking employmnet.
When I asked her how liability insurance for PA (philly) compared with NJ, she got all huffy. At one point she said something to the effect of “I hate Republicans, but they’re right about the need for liability reform.”
I see a reluctant conversion in her future, though I’m not sure we’re any better off with her on the team. Very annoying.

A good example is David Horowitz.
Born to hard core communist parents.
Now he is farther to the right than Limbaugh.
Don’t know what brought on the conversion, but that is a long journey.

I see this in our schools as well. The young teachers are idealistic, the older teachers more reasoned. Older teachers that haven’t made the conversion are either delusional, or union hacks.

I leaned a bit liberal, in an unthinking sort of way.
Until I got a job and saw how much I actually got to keep out of my paycheck.
If there was any lingering doubt, it disappeared when I bought a house and started paying property taxes.
There’s a reason that leftistism is prevalent in those who aren’t actually paying any of its bills.
But that just got me to see that liberalism was an abject failure.
What made me a conservative, (who, more accurately), was Ronald Reagan.

It's more where I went. I transferred from a small university (Lehigh) and finished at Boston University.
I actually took classes from Howard Zinn.......
I actually think that helped in the long run.

Dont know what brought on the [David Horowitz] conversion, but that is a long journey. He tells you what happened in Radical Son which I consider to be one of the best autobiographies ever written.

Older teachers that havent made the conversion are either delusional, or union hacks (or both).

I’m surprised you didn’t have to go through therapy after dealing with that loon Zinn, considering his revisionist ideas of American history.

He was so over the top crazy, it helped me run as far and as quickly as possible from his ideas.
I think he came to class stoned, plus it was rumored that lot of the not so smart girls got A's for their efforts........
He was really popular with a lot of students, his anti-America schtick sold well.
I think that's still common at most campuses.

I was a lib by default going into college. Was rankled by the plethora of posters and notices for the Affirmative Action stuff - got into a bit of an argument or two in a class or two. Couldn’t see why holding me and other young, white males back today was the right way to compensate for non-white, non-males being held back a decade ago. Took up “Affirmative Action; poisoning the future to correct the past” as my mantra.

IIRC his transformation was started by the murder of a friend by the Black Panthers, whom he had supported up to that time.
