What's the status of obamacare?

Posted on 06/18/2010 11:28:55 AM PDT by LouAvul

I just got back to the house and my wife called to say it had passed. She's an ortho surgical PA and the mood at the clinic is somber.

I can't find any news on it, but I knew Freepers would know.

So was it finalized today or something? Was there some debate about it?

Van Winkle. Cute.

No, ObamaCare passed the House back in March of this year, having already been approved by the Senate and Mr. Obama signed it into law that same month. Were you on vacation, or are you referring to something else?

I think the original house bill was never approved by the senate, rather the senate passed their own different bill and the last vote was by the house to approve the senate bill.

It was the senate bill (passed before Scott Brown) that was the final bill, no reconciliation necessary.

I’m referring to whatever the other shoe was that fell today, cause the clinic is talking about refusing medicare patients. That’s for treatment, followup care and meds. Let the frakking senile demoRats see first hand what the idiot they voted for is doing.

“It passed back in March...”

What probably has occurred are the REFORMS from the Healthcare legislation is now being implemented. Some of our family medical specialists (neurologist and cardiologists) were being very “pollyanna” and felt that I was worrying for no reason. If the specialists had read the bill they would know they are going to get screwed.

That’s got to be it. They got word today that medicare will be paying 23% less. Do other insurance companies follow medicare?

There was legislation that would have reversed the 21% cut in medicare payments for physicians. That did not get passed. So, as of today the docs medicare payments went down 21%. That’s what she’s talking about.

Possibly the news you are talking about is that the Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS), has again asked Fiscal Intermediaries (the folks who pay claims on behalf of the government),to further suspend claims processing and claims payments with service dates on or after 06/01/2010,at least until today, pending Congressional approval of the Doctor Fix that would restore the 21 percent payment cut that went into effect June 1st.

In other words, no Medicare payments are to be released to doctors until Congress eliminates or accepts the 21% reduction.

Each month this year, CMS has been putting a 10 day hold on claims hoping Congress will do something, but has gone ahead and paid claims at the old rates on the 11th. The something new is the additional 7 day hold. Of course the whole process will be repeated again come July as Congress plays Spanish Inquistion with BP.

From my experience only, husband has Medicare (due to disability - not our choice, did not want on it) and we are covered by Aetna. Medicare pays first and Aetna benefits from the Medicare negotiated price.
