I’m grateful that my mother’s parents went to Detroit and worked for the budding automotive industry when they left Ireland. Them trains will get an Irishman killed!

Being “cute” about it doesn’t change the stain on our history. Whether this is an illustration or not, many at the time thought Irish were sub-human. And I am sure as they did so they thought they were being “good Christians” and “fine patriotic Americans”.

Interestingly enough, there was a time when Irish was considered "not white." Through my studies of history it seems that whites really didn't solidify until the years after World War II.
