General Stanley McChrystal Resigns
Zero Hedge ^ | 6/22/10 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 06/22/2010 5:13:41 PM PDT by FightThePower!

General Stanley McChrystal, who commands 142,000 troops in Afghanistan from the U.S. and 45 partner nations, has offered his resignation to Barack Obama. The reason for the departure is a profile of the general in Rolling Stone which shows the general as critical of the handling of the Afghanistan war. Bloobmerg reports: "The comments by McChrystal and aides reported in Rolling Stone magazine threaten to fracture a unified front that President Barack Obama has sought to build for the war and distract efforts to hold together an international coalition doing the fighting. Obama reacted with anger upon reading the article, his spokesman said, and officials from the White House to the Pentagon to Congress called McChrystal’s remarks a serious lapse in judgment." The problem is that no matter how the McChrystal situation is resolved, there will be a major power vacuum in Afghanistan, and the extraction of the country's $1 quadrillion (rounded up) in gold and other precious metals as per the recently disclosed "Opium Bonanza" could get slightly problematic... not to mention running the whole Taliban sideshow.

He should resign. He, as a genreal, should NEVER have gotten involved in politics.

He should have also never agreed to meet the failure of a president on his home turf, rather had the balls like MacArthur, to have made the president meet him on neutral ground.

Anyhooooo, this damages BOTH men, our piece of crap president, and Stan, a damn fine general, even if he did vote for this piece of crap president.

Tired of working for some pansie ass liberals? Call Rolling Stone ... hang out with a reporter, tell the truth to get it out there and take your medicine.

I suppose that’s safer than a Military Coup against the Administration?

When they start giving out medals for USMC holding fire you know it is time to get out.

McChrystal isn't stupid. He knew his words would get him fired or he'd have to resign. What it tells me instead is that either the Obama administration and by extension the ambassador to Afghanistan were meddling politically with McChrystal or Obama (Biden) was interfering with his military plans or both.

Like I said, McChrystal didn't get this far in the military without a political brain in his head. He knew damn well what he was doing. I think he just got fed up and said WTF. Sometimes generals are better off preserving their military intellect and falling on their sword for the sake of principle.

My 2 cents anyway.

Obama would more properly be angry with Rolling Stone and would have imprisoned the owners and managers AND writers if he were even up to Woodrow Wilson's standards.

There's a war on and he is allowing this unpatriotic anti-American publisher to runaround discrediting the people involved in the war effort.

All of that is nice to know but AFTER the war.

Mark Levin did an analysis of the Rolling Stone article and could not find direct quotes by McChrystal - only *sources report* and *he (McChrystal) appeared to be....*

Very astute observations by the Great One.

Actually I heard Col North say in an interview today that this reporter was in Afgahanistan when he was there on his last visit.

They allowed the guy access to headquarters.

I think they let their guard down and felt comfortable talking amongst themselves about the administration.

Really bad judgment, know your enemy, and Rolling Stone Magazine is not a friend of the military.

M. Levin also slammed Joe Klein’s (hack journalism) as well as the lefty Rolling Stone.

I will read the RS article to verify all the points that ML made - but listening to his radio show - he was quoting verbatim.

"He voted for Obama WTF I missed that. I thought the only stupid thing he did was Talk to a RS reporter"

As a military man - his choice was Obama o McCain. Looking back at McCain's record with the MIAs, etc.. He may have decided that Obama was the lesser of two evils, in this case.

Many others did the same thing. They all mostly regret it now & I think the General does too.

He gave Obama the chance & found that Obama is a zero - so resignation may be his option at this point.

Obama is incapable of leading America to victory in Afghanistan. His policies and staffing have ensured defeat.

THAT is the ONLY message to be taken from the General’s statements.

All of the judgements and punishments being debated in the media are simply a sideshow.
