It Begins… Plans to Evacuate Tampa Bay Are Put Into Place

As Barack Obama continues to golf, hit the ballpark, BBQ and party, the BP oil slick is now threatening Tampa Bay. Authorities have set up plans for evacuation. Veterans Today reported.

As FEMA and other government agencies prepare for what is now being called the worst oil spill disaster in history, plans to evacuate the Tampa Bay area are in place.

The plans would be announed in the event of a controlled burn of surface oil in the Gulf of Mexico, or if wind or other conditions are expected to take toxic fumes through Tampa Bay.

This practice has been used by the US Forestry service, when fire and smoke threaten the health and well being of people.

The elderly and those with respiratory problems would be more susceptible to health risks, in the event of a controlled burn.

Estimates of the rate of BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill have varied. Independent scientists now suggest that the true spill rate, before the riser pipe was cut off in June, was between 20,000 and 50,000 barrels a day.

Since the April 20th explosion, which resulted in the sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig, there have been more than a million gallons of chemicals poured into the Gulf of Mexico in efforts to break up the spill. The chemicals have come under scrutiny because of their own toxic nature.

It is not certain if the massive slick will have to be set on fire near Tampa Bay, but the possibility has not been ruled out.

Can we please stop downplaying the effects of the oil spill? Obama’s downfall has been handed to us on a silver platter.

“Can we please stop downplaying the effects of the oil spill? Obama’s downfall has been handed to us on a silver platter.”

Not only that but it is devastating the economy of several states, impacting efforts to drill more wells, causing massive ecological damage, and being used to push cap n trade through.

But hey whats a 100,000 barrels a day for 3-4 months.

good point, but a better point is that it really is that bad...and the worst part hasn’t even begun yet. When this shit starts really piling up in the marshes and bays, it is going to be there a long, long time. I don’t know why we have so many here talking about this like it’s no big deal. It is. It’s a big fing deal.

Even his most diehard supporters shy away from discussing his rather limp, ineffectual, slow motion response.

But call into question his incompetent management of the Afghan Team, the conflict between the military and the civilian teams, and he hopped on that real fast.

The anger is gonna shift from BP onto FedZilla.

My imagination is running on overdrive at the moment.

Would someone intentionally create an ecological disaster to force a large scale transfer of population from the gulf region?

Just sayin'

I know it is that bad. I don’t understand why some people here feel compelled to pooh-pooh the damage that has happened already and the damage that is almost certainly to come. This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

So they are going to evacuate Tampa - what about Louisiana?
I am beginning to wonder if the folks in LA are considered expendable like those in Haiti.

Would these plans be necessary if Obama had allowed foreign ships to suck up oil for the last 60 days?

Right you are. That’s why even though Barton may have been right, he was stupid in what he said to BP. All we should be doing is constantly pointing out the failure of 0bama, like the left did to W during Katrina.

The media ought to be shaken down to put up a multi-billion dollar fund for over-hyping this crap and destroying the Florida Gulf Coast tourist industry.

We've been to the Gulf off St. Pete Beach (which is on the West side of Tampa Bay with Tampa sitting on the east side of the bay) and there is not one drop of oil to be seen anywhere!

The only thing we HAVE seen is a lot of Florida license plates and damn few out of state license plates.

Even Gulf coast restaurants are giving Florida resident discounts and coupons to "please come back soon."

The way the media, and even the local talking heads on Tampa TV stations are guilty of over-hype, are covering this, one would expect to find oil in drinking fountains and bottled water.

And Sean Hannity is the worst! Every show I've heard of his, he talks about how the oil is going to destroy the Florida's Gulf Coast, Keys, East Coast and all up the entire Eastern Seaboard of the US before it heads for the UK.

And now there is a "wave" that MIGHT become a tropical depression/storm/hurricane and MIGHT be really-really-really BAD.

Someone told me about the "pending storm" yesterday and I told them:

"Until NautiNurse on Free Republic mentions it, there is NO STORM!"
