Twilight Fans' Vampire Addiction Affecting Relationships
Yahoo Movie Talk ^ | June 28, 2010 | Lindsay Robertson

With fans turning the area outside the Nokia theater in L.A. into a tent city in advance of the "Eclipse" premiere, the Los Angeles Times examines the phenomenon of fans whose lives are upended by their fierce love of the vampire books and movies. The Times found women who have nearly lost their marriages by neglecting their husbands in favor of "Twilight" fan sites, blogs, and message boards. One woman gushes that she's seen the movies "over 300 times."

So-called "Twilight addiction" proliferates on the Internet, where a fan can take any of hundreds of quizzes to self-diagnose their condition, and websites sell hand-made crystal-encrusted T-shirts that say "Twilight Mom." Some "Twi-Moms" as they're known, have even argued that their love of Edward and/or Jacob has actually improved their marriages.

I don’t get it at all. My best friend and i are both 34, and she looooooves this P.O.S. and I can’t stand it at all. That said, she has told me that she feels trapped in her marriage and that he is not what she wanted him to be, and I think that is part of the attraction. If you are young and/or emotionally immature, the relationship with Edward and Bella is great. It’s full of high school drama, sexual tension, and sparkly guys, so of course teen age girls like this. The adults are emotionally stunted and kinda stupid.
I don’t understand why a guy in his 80’s or 90’s wanting to screw a teenage girl is so romantic, I think it’s kinda creepy.

"We think Twilight sucks, and not in a good way."

Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.

I have been baffled by the appeal of the vampire shtick. I found the first indication I have ever come across that may hint at the appeal of the Twilight (vampire/lover) saga.
I was reading with utter amazement that the Natalie Holloway murderer, now in jail charged with another murder and having confessed to the first, receives love letters, marriage proposals, fan mail etc.
The psychologist interviewed said that some of the women are drawn to that human monster (Van Der Sloot) from Aruba because of the idea his dangerous - it makes them think they are special to imagine that he’s dangerous to everyone else but them. Some will imagine that they can ‘tame’ him. Sick...sick...sick. I have always wondered about murderers and rapists receiving fan mail in prison (like Ted Bundy!?).
I saw the first of the Twilight series (well it was targeting the youth market and it showed) I noticed that the male ‘hero’ does not allow himself to have sex with her - and then I glance at that picture of 40 year old women squealing at the teenage star. So apparently there is some real ‘princess’ theory going on here for some of the ladies in question. Some feel that they are special if they are desired but the fantasy hero puts emotion (love) ahead of sex. Also -that they alone can tame the beast; others must fear him.
I think the diamond coating on the vampires is another way that women are attracted to scary men - “if you saw him the way I see him you’d realize what a real gem he is” (diamond in the rough). Also - I think that the original vampire appearance (pale, pasty white skin) is being compensated for with diamond dust. Very odd that this whole thing appeals to older women?!

The best vampire movie I ever saw was the BBC Louis Jourdan version of Dracula. Bad special effects of course (1970’s), but it is, strangely enough, a christian oriented vampire story.

Here's a better one with a Christian theme, very cool:

They aren’t porn.

Nope, just a touching story of a young woman wresting with a difficult choice between necrophilia and bestiality.

I know. I don’t think I have a favorite. I love the “Vampire. Close, Metropire.” line from the Twilight riff.

Porn for women.

Twilight?!

LOL.

Or are you confusing that with HBO's True Blood?

There are about a thousand chubby former public school teachers currently under state supervision who attempted to "improve" their marriages in this manner.

LOL
