What a nightmare!

I’d never have a boat above a damn on a river. Nothing good could possibly happen there!

The ‘adults’ were described as “both really experienced” outdoorsmen....yet they were canoeing without jackets.

Something tells me that they had no idea where they were going with young children...

This is aweful.

Below the dam can be awfully dangerous too. A few years ago a Hmong family was fishing BELOW! the dam on the Mississippi near Interstate-90. They got to close to the dam, and their boat got caught in the roiling waters. When some other boat tried to rescue them, they tied the rescue line to the wrong end. The boat with the Hmong family went straight down, and the family of five or six people were all drowned. They didn't recover the bodies for days and weeks. Anywhere near a dam is dangerous.
