I guess I should have asked will technology bring down the world. Your response is very scary and unfortunately, not as absurd as some may take it. As I stated, I was born in 1980 so I never really think about what it use to be like when families ate at the table, marriages lasted, kids had chores to do, sex wasn’t expected on the first date, flying our flag was the norm, showing cleavage on TV was pushing the line, and men acted like men. I would much rather trade in the internet and cell phones, for good ole fashioned Family and Moral values.

You were saying ...

At the bottom line, it's not a trade-off between the Internet/cell phones -- and -- old fashinoed family and moral values. That's a false dichotomy. And it misses the true problem that the Bible says is at the bottom of it all.

The true problem is in the sinfulness of mankind, and God has already told us about this day that is coming (which is not related to cell phones and the Internet), but is related to the sin condition that all are born into, and have, at the moment they come into this world.

AND... God has the answer to that, which is the salvation that He offers through His Son, Jesus, the Messiah of Israel, the Gospel message, per the Scriptures.

We have known for a very long time (per the Scriptures) that God is allowing this condition of sin in mankind to grow to its fullness (which it is and has been from the time of the Garden of Eden) -- so He can judge the entire world, with the wrath He has saved up from the beginning. He will dispense it all -- when this condition (that you are observing and comment on) -- comes to its fullness, and He releases all that wrath He has held back, for many thousands of years, thus far. It will all be dispensed upon the whole world, in a matter of just a very few years (7 years ... max ...).

And after He has fully dispensed His wrath that He has saved up from mankinds sinfulness, over thousands of years -- He will bring into place, His own "one-world government" over all the nations.

Then things will be different here in the United States and in other countries in the world.

Then do it.

Not far from me, about 6 families of young folks have invested in farms. They live in traditional family units and their goal is self-sufficiency. Some have savings to see them through the learning period. Some are working part time while building their foundations. They home school. They made their own jobs. They are a community.

Perhaps 20 miles from them, 40 Orthodox Jewish families from Chicago have built a community. Some of the men still work in the City and are only out here on weekends. Otherwise, they, too are building their future.

There are Evangelical congregations here that are in their 3rd generation. There is love, family values and morals that the parents and children take almost for granted, thanks to the work done by the grandparents 35 years ago.

We are elders who came to the country from the city 35 years ago to establish a self-sufficient lifestyle, for exactly the same reasons people are doing so today. We invented and re-invented ourselves as times demanded and have always worked for ourselves. We provide services and manufacture goods to sell.

Yes, we have Internet, obviously. TV is nearly gone, we keep it totally turned off at the wall when it is not being watched. I would guess 1-3 hours/day, 3 days/week, at the moment. Cell phone is no-frills model with prepaid minutes, camera and no net or text. It is handy when the phones go out or one of us is on the road for work or shopping. We would really miss the Internet and we do use it for business, so it stays, for now. But we lived w/o it and w/o TV and w/o cell phones for 25 years or more, so we will do so again, if necessary.

It can be done by anyone who wants to do so. You and your generation need to pull up your sox, get out of the cities and set yourselves free. Bitching about your chains doesn’t make them lighter. The Internet, for now, can be your education. There are millions of sites dedicated to teaching how to do almost anything yourself. For the price of a connection, some print cartridges and several scores of reams of paper, you can download whatever you need for reference. You can network with others who are already out in the rural areas making a new life for themselves. 35 years ago, we had to do this by going to a library, investing in books and having face-to-face meetings. We did it before Reagan and without Tea Parties. You can certainly do it now.
