American singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge has separated from her partner of ten years, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels.

The 49-year old rock musician filed a document called a Petition for Dissolution of Domestic Partnership with the Los Angeles County Superior Court which will officially end the partnership.

Etheridge and Michaels, 35, both iconic gay rights activists in the US, had a commitment ceremony back in 2003 and registered as legal domestic partners in the state of California.

Etheridge is asking for joint custody of the couple's twins who were born in 2006, after Tammy was artificially inseminated by an anonymous donor.

I think that was the relationship before this one. I remember reading something about it being Lou Diamond Phillip’s ex-wife I think.

The Daily Mail is slow. Etheridge announced this weeks ago. And there were rumors of this going back months earlier.

>>> I thought the homosexual dogma was that gays never break up like heteros do?

Really? Where did you see that ? I thought the dogma was they wanted the right to succeed or fail that heterosexuals do. And since most heterosexual marriages fail, I doubt the gays will have a much better average. Melissa certainly doesn’t, but then again ten years is longer then many last.

Etheridge singing “Born to Run” for the 9/11 New York Heroes Concert. Superb.

I believe that one of the (supposed) legitimizing factors presented by homosexuals is that their marriages would run the same numbers (statistically) as heterosexual marriages. I guess they were right, at least about the divorce thing.

Really? Where did you see that ?

I'm surprised you haven't. That was a common claim a while ago...that gay relationships were stronger and lasted longer than hetero. It was one main argument for gay marriage.

From Wiki:

Famous for being one half of one of the first publicly lesbian celebrity couples, Cypher advocated for gay rights. She has also been involved in promotions for PETA. From her partnership with Melissa Etheridge, she gave birth to two children, a daughter, Bailey Jean, born in February 1997, and a son, Beckett, born November 1998. Although originally reticent, the couple eventually revealed that the father of both children was friend and rock star David Crosby.[1] In September 2000, she and Etheridge separated. It soon came to light that Cypher had begun to question her sexuality,[1].
Cypher married Matthew Hale in 2004. She has an older sister, Melanie. She is the youngest of the two daughters of Dick and Betty Cypher.

The National Inquirer made some mention of
a crazed sex poodle coming between them....
ok, maybe it didn’t come between them but
then again if they both have physical evidence..
