Fight Without Rules is a vicious combination of boxing and karate where virtually anything goes, save eye-gouging and biting. It is incredibly popular in the south of Russia.

So it seemed a perfect night out for the man who has dominated Russia for the last decade and the film star known for a string of martial arts films.

The pair, who have known each other for many years, spent the evening at a restaurant in the Black Sea resort of Sochi known for its fish specialities.

"They just talked," Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Mr Putin, said. "They also spoke about the forthcoming match."

After the meal, Van Damme and Mr Putin, attended the European Championship where the premier bestowed a prize on the winner.

"The so-called fist fights have always been in favour in Russia," Mr Putin, a judo specialist, said.

Mr Putin has been photographed on a number of occasions in an effort to promote him as a photogenic, healthy, intrepid leader.

"Last summer Mr Putin dived in a mini-submarine to the floor of the world's deepest lake, Baikal, and rafted down fast flowing rivers in Siberia. He also clipped a radio transmitter on to a beluga whale."

And here I was thinking that they were the ones fighting each other. That would be something. I’ve seen Putin do some Judo and now I was thinking he was entering the cage with Van Damme.

Everybody, even a communist, wants to be a movie star. Certainly Putin is celebrity obsessed as are most leaders today in the world. Why did thinking people allow the cult of personality and celebrity to get so far?

Russian news agencies said Putin had dived to a depth of around 1,400 metres (4,600 feet) - the deepest point in the lake's southern part -- and safely returned to the surface after four hours underwater, AFP reports.

On the world stage, Putin is the puppetmaster.

Obama is the puppet.

“Last summer Mr Putin dived in a mini-submarine to the floor of the world's deepest lake”

On August 12th it will be ten years since the Kursk went
down. He is responsible for bungling the rescue. It's a
too bad he made it back to the surface.

The great thing about Freep (and Jim Robinson) is that we GET IT.

Its not really about something called Communism, Socialism, or whatever tag one applies.

It is about TOTALITARIANISM where the bosses control and steal wealth for their friends and allies. Period.

As long as they live in their charteaus, eat Wagyu beef, sip expensive wines and bribe enough thugs to enforce your corruption and crimes, they don’t care about freedom or even collapsing the economy. They will be protected from the collapse.

Exactly. The attempts to define which particular "ism" (socialism, communism, fascism) Barry and Co. are following are pointless.
