Me too. Glad to see that somebody has a worse mess than I have in my basement and shop.

I had to clean up my parents’ belongings after they both died. Not worth an auction, could only throw away half of it. Still have more that needs to go somewhere, but I don’t have the energy.

Probably my sons will have to clean it up in a few years. I already gave them some instructions, or tips, suggesting a fire may be as economical and easier than a sale.

I found a rare white castle mug at an estate sale....final sale on ebay was 300 dollars...it was very rare but at the time I thought I'd get maybe 30 dollars....it was up to 100 dollars within 24 hours....picked up a Lucite purse at goodwill for 2 dollars and it sold for 140 dollars...you never know whats something is worth to a collector...Of course lots of things went for 3 or 4 dollars. My daughter was given a Fire King burger king mug I picked up at good will for 39 cents and it went for 53 dollars....poking around in basements and garages is the best with estate sales...no one goes into those places and you can find lots of collectibles stuff................it was fun while it lasted. Quit after 3 years.... The secret is to know what your looking at.

“Some of those masks are probably worth more than any other single item.”

That’s why I would need a pro to go through something like that with me. Those would have been among my “throw out” pile. And I would have kept the match-box cars!

A Republican who lived thru the depression (note tool box in pic). My parents wer Dem's who were raised in depression and tended to hoard also. Late in life they went Republican with Reagan and have stayed there since.

I'd have been there in a heartbeat.

Like your example, it's often the "odds and ends" stuff that you pick up for a few bucks that bring the most.

Wifey and I get a kick out of that ‘Hoarders’ TV program....the bulk of ‘em are just pigs who never toss the trash.

Thanks for posting this. It would have been a blast. Of course, the auctioneer's style plays a big role.

Some would have had fun with this , others would have made it a painful experience to endure.

World Toy and Gift-

Yep, that was the name. I just remember that they didn’t take too kindly to kids like me who biked there just to look (no money to spend!)

I loved that place too — it was a different time and place, huh? You could lost in the merchandise for hours.

I haven’t been to the Village in a while either. But i heard through the grapevine that the 5 and dime closed. Was it the Variety Fair? Hard to navigate through the cobwebs in my brain to pull names out like that out — I could well be wrong!

What a thrill to go thru those photos. THANK YOU!

This guy wasn't your average disgusting "Hoarder". There are items worth big bucks to Collectors, even tho the market is soft these days.

For example, his Oriental Collection of figurines, etc., is off the charts. It's likely some are carved of solid Jade and Malachite, etc.

Just WOW!

Shame that they are doing an “estate sale”. Somebody could sell all of that for a fortune, but it would take years.

LOL! Those pics remind me of the House on the Rock in Wisconsin. Take a walk through that and you’ll see what I mean.

I think the Reagan sticker may be for Reagan High School, which is located in the Houston Heights. It’s one oldest high schools in Houston.

REAGAN HIGH SCHOOL
413 East 13th Street

John H. Reagan served as postmaster general and secretary of the treasury of the Confederacy. He served for 10 years as chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commerce Committee and later was a member of the Senate Commerce Committee. He is best known today for his advocacy of the Interstate Commerce Commission. Reagan High School was built in 1926 and renovated in 2006.

See if they have a vintage Fender Stratocaster or Gibson Les Paul in that collection of guitars. $$$$
