George lost hearing in one ear saving his brother in the frozen pond. Although that closed some avenues to him, he put his nose to the grindstone and made a difference, even though few saw it.
What he did NOT do was whine and moan, "Woe is me, I don't want to run this run down Savings and Loan, I want to be Amelia Earhart's co-pilot, and if I can't do that, I'm going to sit in the corner and suck my thumb."
