Lindsay (Lohan) a meth addict, bipolar: report

Hard-partying "Mean Girls" star Lindsay Lohan will be treated for methamphetamine addiction and a mental disorder that causes wild mood swings when she goes into rehab, the gossip website TMZ.com reported today.

Lohan, 24, will be treated for meth addiction and bipolar disorder during her 90 days of court-ordered rehab following her release from jail this week -- which could happen as soon as today, her lawyer said.

The site also quoted a person familiar with the case as saying methamphetamine -- a highly-addictive stimulant also known as crystal meth -- and opiates are Lohan's "drugs of choice." Opiates are a derivative of opium and are generally downers.

I think there is a nexus between some drug use (meth especially) and bipolar disorder,...

I am not the expert you were looking for but I wonder the same thing. Bi-polar disorder is not a disease that can be positively tested for it is a cluster of psychological symptoms. There is no doubt that drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine and even alcohol can bring on psychological issues by altering brain chemistry as well as exacerbate existing problems.

This particular girl was one of those Christians who I simply can’t understand. In some ways she was a far better Christian than me but she would then do things which I just could not believe. Part of her problem was she was just too popular for her own good. You probably know the type, prom queen, cheerleader, voted most or best for several things and at a large high school.

She would witness to most people she met and even worked as a missionary for nearly a year. It was clear to me that her Christianity was sincere yet at times I would catch her doing things that Christians just should not do. For instance smoking. I don’t think she was involved with illegal drugs but she was living a pretty loose life in ways.

In some ways one of the best people I have ever known and in others not a nice person at all. I really do think her mental problems were the cause. Then again maybe her actions are what caused her Bi-polar. I simply don’t know.

It’s easy to pile on and attack her, but she is mentally ill and needs help before she ends up dead.

There are opiate replacement meds like Suboxone and Methadone that work well, and Bi-Polar meds that are somewhat effective, but the Meth is going to be a big problem getting off of.

She is/was obviously self-medicating to deal with all the crazy stuff going on inside of her head.

People don’t stuff themselves with all kinds of drugs and booze for no reason.

She needs prayers and medical help, not criticism.

Methylphenidate

Methylphenidate belongs to the piperidine class of compounds and increases the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain through reuptake inhibition of the monoamine transporters. MPH possesses structural similarities to amphetamine, but its pharmacological effects are even more closely related to those of cocaine, although it is less potent with less potential for addiction.

Rxs of psychotropic medications for children under the age of 16 increased 800% between 1990 and 2000. I don't know what the increase/decrease has been since 2000 but I am not optimistic about what it would be.

FWIW, chae, the descending spiral of prescriptions you describe is almost exactly the chain of events that happened to a close friend of mine. An adult woman. Before that whole episode of her life was stopped she was prescribed and using about eight psychotropics and at least twelve strong medicines for physical problems including the lovely Warfarin anti-coagulant. For all practical purposes she was mentally a vegetable for eight years of her life. But she just wouldn't hear from her husband or anybody else that the doctors might not have her best interests in mind.

A doctor of my acquaintance telle me this : A meth addiction is a death sentence. The drug changes the very chemistry of the brain. There is no”recovery” the addict will return to it until he destroys himself.

‘That being said, I’d hit it.’

You had better hurry with this one, or you’ll be committing necrophilia.

Maybe it's me, but I think this makes her so much hotter.

There's a certain degree of danger that makes the drug addled and insane more exciting.

I once had a fling with the neighborhood heroin whore, and when she showed up on my front lawn dressed only in curtains, wielding a chef's knife, whirling like a dervish, screaming that I had to come home to "our children", it was a definite rush.

I'm not sure my wife and real children would concur, but as they say "your mileage may vary".

Well, the meth addiction explains why she went from a drop-dead gorgeous red-head to a dirty blond skank.

I wonder if it was the meth that turned her lesbo?
