Secret Service: Chelsea Clinton Was Best First Child
Newsmax ^ | 04 Aug 2010 | Ronald Kessler

Posted on 08/04/2010 9:32:29 PM PDT by Publius804

Of all the offspring of presidents in recent memory, Chelsea Clinton was the best first child, according to Secret Service agents.

“In my career, Chelsea Clinton did it the best,” says an agent familiar with both her detail and the Bush twins’ details. “Treated the detail right, told them what was going on, never gave problems that I knew of.”

Agents describe what the first families have been like in my book “In the President’s Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect,” out this week in paperback with a new chapter on the Salahis' intrusion at President Obama’s state dinner.

The new material includes disclosure of a secret Presidential Threat Task Force established within the FBI to address the increase in threats against President Obama. The task force operates within the FBI’s National Security Branch. It consists of 20 representatives from pertinent agencies, including agents from the FBI and Secret Service and operatives from the CIA, the NSA, and the Defense Department, along with FBI analysts.

In contrast to newlywed Chelsea, Jenna and Barbara Bush would try to lose their agents and would not tell them where they were going or when. Jenna would run red lights to try to evade her agents.

“I think she has a hard time grasping how easy it would be to pick her up, throw her in a van, and next thing you know she’s on Al Jazeera,” an agent said when Jenna was still in the White House. “And we’re out there, we’re trying to do the right thing. And I don’t think she understands it. She definitely didn’t respect what we’re out there trying to do for her.”

I can believe it. Chelsea was also protected by the news media.

Very surprising. However, the Reagan kids were grown up or were the elder Bush kids during Bush I. So really it is a contest with Amy Carter, the Bush Twins and Chelsea. Chelsea was so sheltered I am surprised she did not rebel. The Bush Twins were not bad except for their alcohol usage which they seem to have grown out of.

I have no problem with her. It was hell keeping up with dad on his impromptu trips to Burger King every day.

The Bush twins are Texans and don’t need protection.

Never have. I remember them mulling about in the airport sidewalk back in the 90s as teens, waiting for their car, no detail.

Their parents would have telegraphed to them if there was need to worry.

Chuck Baldwin: Good point. Didn't the daughter of the Clinton's, Chelsea, referred to the military and people like yourself in federal law enforcement as pigs?

Gary Aldrich: That was a report that was repeated to me by Secret Service Agent who was quite offended by this but it wasn't just Chelsea who had an attitude. There was one young staff member who refused to talk to General McCaffrey who is now Drug-Czar because he was in uniform. She said, "I don't talk to anybody who wears a military uniform." Of course he was quite offended. It became public, this slight on the part of a Clinton staffer. He has since become Drug-Czar. I don't know if there is a connection there.

I find it quite believeable. Chelsea was much younger when the Secret Service began protecting her. The Bush gals were in college. Chelsea was much more comfortable with her detail by the time she started college, she had five years with them.

I can’t imagine having to try to adjust to college while adjusting to a Secret Service detail as well.

In fact, the Bushes have to go rescue their own detail when they fall behind... remember that? A president fishing his own guy from behind a locked door?

Can’t remember if it was Brazil or some SA country.

How do you know? If the Secret Service said Chelsea was the best kid I believe them. She turned out ok...I don't find it hard to believe at all.

Honestly, I never got the big deal with the Bush twins drinking. From what I can remember they were college students who used fake ids to buy beer. Like that never happens.

Everybody got so worked up over totally typical behavior. You better believe Chelsea drank underage as well. And it doesn’t mean anything......

Kids that grow up with absentee/crappy parents often mature very quickly, and become decent people very quickly... however, they also often have a really tough time in their future years (usually the 40’s), often exhibiting very little patience for, well, idiots who act as stupidly as their parents did once upon a time.

Agree. And I find this very believable as well.

I’ll bet that Chelsea was way better than her parents. ;)

But we remember Alice Roosevelt...she smoked, partied and gambled, oh, and rode in cars with men!!!!!

Chelsea’s ok for now, but I like the Bushes better.

The Bush girls were kinda low class. Sorry, but it’s the truth. They rarely dressed appropriately..for anything. I honestly don’t care, but since this is a thread about Presidential kids, Chelsea did much better. And there were times it must have been difficult being Bill Clinton’s daughter. AHEM.

I guess Kessler decided not to print a famous exchange involving Chelsea and the Secret Service. In 1992, not long after her father won the presidential election, Chelsea came bounding down the steps of the governor’s mansion in Little Rock, and loudly asked Hillary: “Hey Mom, which gorilla is driving me to school today?”

I have this from a source with direct knowledge of the incident. At the time, I believe Chelsea was 12 or 13 years old. Say what you will about the Bush girls, but there’s no record of them referring to Secret Service officers in those terms.

You don’t know that Chelsea drank underage, what makes you assume she must have? Do you know something we don’t? And while using fake Id’s to drink alcohol underage is certainly not the worst thing a person can do, it goes to show just how people’s ideals have changed over the years when they say it doesn’t mean anything. Ya know, I think I just figured out why I love all those old fashioned costume dramas and feel like I’m living in the wrong era.
