Could be a possibility. That’s what happened in the Jericho series.

In any case, I don’t think the country is going to be susceptible to an invasion and occupation,
because an EMP doesn’t do anything to get rid of the 100’s of millions of privately owned firearms. This is what foreign powers fear more about our country than our military - occupation-wise.

The absence of mention of America as a factor in end-times prophecy certainly means that we’ll be a non-factor when the time comes.

Maybe this news will cheer you up even more: Gates Announces Plan to Cut Major Military Command in Virginia.

I feel so much safer with the Demonrats in 100% control.

I have been buying and extra case of food every week- corn one week, peas the next- dried rice, beans, etc

When you count up the number of people in your family and multiply that by two meals per day... it does not look like a lot and makes me wonder how long I might have to stock up for.

I constantly get ribbed about how much stuff I have in the basement.

We’ll be clean and fed for a while if the SHTF.

You can’t have world goverment with the US being a superpower.

You can’t have a superpower if the economy and industrial capacity is strong.

Where does EMP fit in? Societal breakdown, very quickly. We are third world in very short time, and hardly anyone knowing how to live in third world conditions.

I’m not so sure all the elites would be safe. Think about it. They travel a lot, depend on others to take care of everything for them, I think they’re pretty darn vulnerable UNLESS they just happen to be in or near a designated, fully equipped shelter — as in equipped for MONTHS and MONTHS.

I read the book, *One Second After*...

Highly recommended! After I read it, I made EVERYBODY in my house read it.

People who can’t do anything for themselves are going to be the most vulnerable. The elite don’t know how to be self-sufficient and if their underlings turn on them, they’re toast.

Unbelievable. They released a report detailing our national vulnerabilities to something like this and then they vote to kill dealing with it.

But hey, we've got millions laying around to feed crack to monkeys. I swear my friend, one of these days.....

“I’m more worried about economic collapse than anything else,
at this time at least.”

....me too...that has a higher probability of being a triggering event IMHO...however I think the breakdown of society would be the same, once the food trucks quit running.

I want a job working in one of these ultra-protected retreats reserved for the elites. Chances are, not many of them will show up after the actual event, and I will be able to enjoy caviar, arugula, and air conditioning. ;o)

“I constantly get ribbed about how much stuff I have in the basement.”

...you may want to consider an off site cache too...and tell absolutely no one about it...after the food riots begin, I expect there’ll be local ‘food security committees’ that will search everyone’s homes looking for ‘hoarding’...and they will seize any ‘contraband’ they come upon...they will treat food just like when Obama told Joe the Plumber “we’re gonna spread it around”...controlling food will enable politicians to stay in power.

OK, so we all agree it’s dumb to not have protection against EMP, natural or hostile.

So what should Congress do? What does Congress have the authority to do?

What physical things can be done to protect the USA from a big radio pulse?

We can’t depend on the feds. Congress can, and will, do nothing.

It’s going to be up to the grassroots to watch out for themselves.

It’ll be up to us to protect ourselves from the consequences of one.

Make sure you have equipment and food and medical supplies that are not vulnerable to an EMP.

And make sure you have a plan for dealing with feral looters. I have no doubt that they will band together under a strong leader as the scenario in One Second After describes. They will have to be dealt with ruthlessly as described in the book to protect society.

That’s probably the part of the book that alarmed me the most. The rest is pretty easy to figure out as far as survival. Planning for that contingency, is another matter.
