QUESTION ABOUT LAPTOPS (VANITY)
Posted on 08/09/2010 5:02:01 PM PDT by Jean2
I am thinking about getting a laptop and was wondering what kind would be best. Do any of you who may own one have any suggestions? Thank you.

Depends on the size of your lap, I guess. :>)
Actually, any of the popular brands will work, just get one with the bells and whistles you want.

I would recommend a Mac laptop, if you have the money. Go to a local Apple store and take a look.

I have had good experiences with Dell laptops.
Be sure to get one with the Intel Processor and a large hard drive and memory.
I made Dell give me Windows XP, even though they were trying to push Vista. XP only needs 1GB RAM to be super fast. Not sure if they will still give you XP, though.
If you prefer Mac, go for it, but they cost a lot more.

My daughter gave me a Gateway and I like it better than my desktop. Don't Ipads do the same thing? Daughter got one for her birthday and my grandson got one for his birthday. They love them. I like the size and color of mine.

Buy a non-Mac and be satisfied.
Buy another one in 5 yrs and be satisfied all over again.
Or just buy a Mac now and be satisfied for the 10-12 yrs your two non-Macs will get you for the same price in the end.
And you’ll save on anti-spyware/malware too.

I and several of my friends have settled on the Toshiba Satellite family. My current machine is an L505 running windows 7 with no troubles since purchase last December. The few technical problems my friends have faced with their (older) Satellites have been dealt with quickly and professionally by US-based Toshiba and Office Depot staff.
I am not paid by Toshiba, Microsoft or Office Depot. Indeed, for the amount of money I've given tham over the years, they should be praising me. :)

Depends what you want it for. If it's an alternate for desktop then you want a fullsize "laptop." But if you want it for travel I think you should consider a "netbook." I throw mine (Acer Aspire One with Win 7 Starter) in my suitcase or book-bag. It weighs nothing. The battery lasts forever. I haven't taken my laptop on a trip since I got the netbook about six months ago.

MacBook or MacBookPro...yeah a little more expensive but the maintenance and update process is painless.
They just work, period!
No Windows permissions and all that crapola.

Get something with the functions you use the most and programs you are comfortable with.. Look at it lasting a couple or so years and then look at a replacement. Batteries will degrade if you use them a lot as they are designed for only so many recharges.
