Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the talk show host who recently apologized for saying the N-word 11 times to a caller on the air, said Tuesday she plans to give up her radio show when her contract is up at the end of this year.
The conservative advice maven made the announcement on CNN's "Larry King Live," saying she wants to "regain her First Amendment rights."
Schlessinger said she's not retiring or quitting. Instead, she said, she feels stronger and freer to say what she believes needs to be said.
"I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry -- some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and sponsors," she said.
Schlessinger apologized last week for saying the N-word several times in an on-air conversation with a caller whom she accused of being hypersensitive to racism. She said on her website that she was wrong in using the word for what she said was an attempt to make a philosophical point.

Don;t seem to be a problem with the "H"-word.. i.e. honkkey.. or the "C"-word... "Crakker"..
Like I said has her problems and isn’t a saint. Kind of like Rush with all his marriages, pain medication addiction, etc. But Rush is still a genius when it comes to politics and is the #1 asset to conservatives.
Dr. Laura has her problems in the past, but has now been married a long time, has a son in the military and basically tries to stop people from making mistakes she has made.
I wish I saw more and better role models who have the huge public forums that they have, but I don’t see them. I wish Rush and Dr. Laura had better personal lives but they don’t. But that doesn’t diminish the good that they’ve done warts and all.

Remember that when she started the affair with Mr. Bishop, her current husband, he also had three small children besides the wife she took him from. Never in all the years has she ever mentioned those poor children who lost their father. Were they ever involved in his life? In hers? All we heard about was her precious Bunchkin. The other three kids were not seen as important to her, even as she advised all callers to spend a lot of time and energy on their kids of divorce.
And remember that the Bunchkin was thrown out of several schools, including Hillsdale, and had serious problems in the military when his MySpace page was found to contain many obscene and extremely sick drawings of killing girls, raping children, and really sick things involving a son and his mother, in addition to photos of Derek putting his gun in his mouth for the camera. Yes, little Bunchkin WAS the reason the army took away MySpace privileges from the troops, and I do not know how that case ever ended.

Robert Sheets Byrd got away with using the N-word up to the point of his death. He claimed it was okay because there are “white n&&&ers AS WELL AS black n&&&ers”.
The media’s double standard (and the Rats who celebrated his whole life at his funeral) is glaring.
Wrong. Robert Byrd (D-KKK) was also permitted to freely use this word even though socialist revisionist historians claimed that he gave up all of his racist attitudes by 1949. Never mind his stance on the civil rights bill or his famous late career interview where he used the word on camera and defended its use.
Didn’t care for her radio show either, but she became a target of the Left for her stance against homosexuality and against the agenda of the American Library Association to undermine parental authority.
She is a punk! She chants take back free speech, then steps down. Grow a back bone doc.
She also talks about bullies then lets the bullies win. I don’t get that.
The word nigger is just a word and not wrong in of itself. It's only racism behind the word that is evil.
It's past time this politically correct insanity ended and there was a backlash against those using it as a weapon to silence those they disagree with.
True, blacks can use the word nigger and the media can use the word cracker when quoting some black racist buffoon.
