My guess is that Mariotti has a lot of friends in Illinois. Maybe the prosecutor asked the judge to set bail high to discourage him heading there.
I just noticed an error in my original post. I should have said bail is normally NOT set based on the seriousness of the charge.

He’s not really an ESPN guy, he’s a semi-regular on Around the Horn as has been a replacement guy on PTI a couple of times but Kornheiser hates his guts so that’s pretty rare. And really sports reporters getting busted isn’t exactly a sports story, which team is going to be effected by Jay getting arrested? Other than Ozzie Guillén (who also hates Jay) doing a happy dance this really isn’t a sports story, it’s a c-list celebrity getting arrested story, which is TMZ’s gig not ESPN’s.
No idea at all ...
