Oh boy is that a sore spot with me. I HATE THAT. Its actually an passive-aggressive power play. I have right of way but I grant you permission to go as a boon.
This and its many permutations is actually EXTREMELY dangerous activity. Whatever the reason, a person is attempting to change the written rules of the road between himself and one other driver, when there are more than likely others who would be impacted, (no pun intended), by the misguided effort. I have seen more close calls than I care to think about when people engage in this stupidity.
I’m a transplant to the rural Georgia. And here, it isn’t passive-aggression. It’s seen as someone being nice and neighborly.
It makes me nervous and frustrated, because I’m afraid that I will become the victim in an accident. I can just hear the kind, neighborly lady trying to explain to the sheriff’s deputy, “I was just trying to be polite. I don’t know why she is so upset that the other driver crossed in front of her and hit her car!”
