I really enjoyed driving in Texas. A lot of their roads had really large shoulders, and I regularly found that Texans would actually pull over ONTO those shoulders to let faster moving cars pass. I felt like I was in heaven.

My first experience of driving in Texas included this friendly gesture. I didn't know about it. I was approaching a slower-moving vehicle from behind, was about ready to pass and had my signal on to get out into the oncoming lane, and the gentleman moved over onto the shoulder. Having never experienced this before, I immediately wondered what was in the road that he was moving over to avoid. Nothing there, he was simply being nice. That was my experience for my six months at Goodfellow, AFB in San Angelo, TX. It still makes me want to go back.
