Screw McCartney and Lennon. Ringo is my favorite.

My fave is Stu Sutcliffe - had the good sense to die before they made it big.

Ringo was always my favorite, too, since I was about 7 years old. My instincts were good: over the years and the insane fame, Ringo is the one Beatle who resisted the temptation to take himself too seriously (though Harrison, my second fave, was a close runner-up in that department; I always admired him).

Ringo's always upbeat and positive, and although it took me several decades to realize it, also a pretty good drummer. I'd figured he was an average dummer in the right place at the right time, until I heard him sit-in with another group a few years ago. There was no mistaking his distinct style and power to guide the sound of the group. It blew me away. I suddenly heard how much of the Beatles' tradmark "sound" was because of Ringo.

Think about it. The Beatles were unknown until he joined.

He had a pretty good solo career too.
