I own a 12 guage “coach†gun in which I installed rifled chokes to fire 3 inch hollow point sabot slugs [50cal]. As a defensive weapon, I submit this combo would be lethal to any bear.....IMO.

Untrue, if you can unlimber it before the polar bear is on you. Once a bear has hold of you or taking swats at you, it doesn't much matter what kind of gun you have. A 12 gauge slug will take down any ground animal we have on the planet if its within 75 yards.
