As a last resort. PayPal has an ~approximate 4% vig to use the service and from what I understand now, payments are kept in escrow for 21 days in order for PayPal to make money on the funds, whoops, no it’s keep in escrow in order to protect the buyer in the event there is a problem with the transaction.

Not true. The “vig” is .029%, plus a flat $.30 fee per transaction. The sender obviously is not charged a fee. As for the 21 day wait, that only happens in rare cases where a buyer has disputed a transaction, or where an account has been hijacked—that sort of thing. I have used PayPal for almost 4000 transactions, and I’ve never had a single problem with it, and they’ve never made me wait for my money.
