Although the ruins are not in very good condition (compared to Palenque and other Mayan sites), the view looks spectacular!
This site hasn’t been “conserved”, which is really just another way of saying “get it ready for tourists”. :’)

My attention to the site’s condition was first drawn by the small size of the building stones and the badly deteriorated state of the ruins (no pun intended). Of course, that may also have something to do with the spectacular view. You only get that view from the hilltop and with the hilltop comes being more exposed to the weather and the increased difficulty of getting really big stones up there.
Given how many times they defeated Palenque in war, maybe there is some sort of Central American version of Sparta vs Athens going on. That is, Sparta invested very heavily in military prowess and its ruins today are unimpressive. By contrast, Athens suffered defeats but the Acropolis...
