WELCOME to the new E.E.O.C., using Judicial Activism intergovernmentally to make their, and Obama’s point.
Is there any more demanding “religion” on the face of the earth, with rituals more specialized, and retrograde, and any holiday more disruptive than Ramadan? THis juggernaut of us accomodating them just keeps a’comin’, and we keep getting tested with new lines drawn in the sand, and FINALLY, if this story is to be believed , SOMEBODY takes a stand and FIRES THEM! Hooray! WE would’ve been fired for LESS! Let’s face it, the practices and observances of Islam are just NOTHING like the same of other religions we’re used to here, and which are willing to assimilate.
Islam, even if these are ‘peaceful’ people doesn’t and can’t pretend to understand and respect what traditionally goes on in an American Workplace, where , despite THEM and their demands, we still try to be PRODUCTIVE>
I agree with this essay 100%. The only problem is, how does one know they are Muslim if they are deliberately hiding it? I mean, the fork-under-the-bacon trick is cool, but what about non-chef jobs? I realize you probably don’t have an answer, I’m just thinking out loud.
“Are these jobs Mexicans won’t do?”
I worked for Swift back in the mid-60’s in Omaha. I was paid $5.00 an hour when (if I remember correctly) the minimum wage was $1.25. Of course being a ‘gut-shoveler’ was not the most pleasant job around. We wore hip-waders and shoveled guts into open train cars destined for the rendering plant.
No, I don’t think even a Mexican would have done that job, but this young hungry white boy sure did. I had just left home (16) and had to eat and pay rent. I wasn’t there very long and didn’t eat any beef for about six months after that.
Why is Swift hiring useless foreign parasites when there are tons of US citizens out of work. Screw this company and everything they make.
“Time to start processing pork products...you won?t have to fire them, they?ll leave and won?t be back.”
That would just anger them more. The reason they were fired is that Swift would not give them a prayer break. Processing pork would just add to their list of grievances.
Y'apply to work in an unclean, very unislamic place, then demand to practice something that is an abomination to that practice?
They're all smokin' crack.
Nothing irritates me more than to hear some out of touch politician claim there are jobs going wanting here that people like me will not do.
In fact there are very few.
“When are they going to try to understand and respect OUR culture?”
-—they never will. It’s no accident that TWO workplace lawsuits in the past week are timed to help facilitate Rauf and Co.’s current contention that America still has a long way to go with its attitudes towards Muslims, as he tries to get his Islamic Center built, amidst all the ‘Islamophobia’ that only he can ‘heal’.
Someone should sit down and explain to these folks, that as
‘religious’ as AMerica is, and as many Churches, Synagogues, Temples and Houses of Worship as we have, we are still, when it comes to WORK, a ‘secular’ society, and we can’t accomodate everything about people whose ‘work ethic’ takes a back seat to their religious observances.
My career as a gut-shoveler came to an end the day my boss took me over to where they slit the throats and drank a quart-sized glass of steaming hot foamy blood. He was a very large black man built like Marvin Hagler only 6’6” tall, no fat, just solid muscle. He said that is what made him strong. “See ya’ later, send me my check in the mail.” I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I was sure that he might eat me if he forgot to bring his lunch.
Hey, Abdul, if you don’t like the job, leave. It’s a free country. As for pork products adding to their grievances, well, if you’ve got a disability, say missing an arm, well, you aren’t going to be able to wrestle alligators very well for a living. So, it’s not a job suited for you. If you’re a muslim, handling pork products doesn’t fit your occupational skillset, so go do something else...like leave the U.S. Other religious groups adjusted upon their assimilation to the U.S., they can to. If not....like I said, leave. And don’t let the meat processing plant door hit you in the arse on the way out.
Don’t worry. It was 80 Somalis in the original complaint but 79 of them went to fight with the jihadists in Somalia so it is only one schmuck left to keep the lawsuit alive.
How about everyone just does their job without expecting their employer to make special arrangements to accomodate their religious practices? It’s a job, not your place of worship.
On Wednesday, Minnesota-based Gold'n Plump Inc., a poultry processing firm, agreed to allow Muslim workers short prayer breaks and the right to refuse handling of pork.
The Star-Tribune in Minneapolis reported that the federally mediated agreement -- a year in the making in response to a class-action lawsuit brought by nine Somali workers -- is among the first in the nation that requires employers to accommodate the Islamic prayer schedule. It also accommodates the belief held by many Muslims that the Qur'an prohibits the touching and eating of pork products.
Howzbout we make Ramadan a national holiday? Will that help? /Sarc
See? If we make sharia the law of land all our problems will be solved. /s
Some time ago Swift and companies just like them crunched the numbers and decided their bottom-line would be better served if they cut wages by 67%, benefits by 100% and brought in armies of legal and illegal immigrants, de facto slave labor, to do the work their former American employees could no longer earn a living doing.
Screw 'em. Let them reap what they've sown. I hope they lose and have to built prayer rooms. And if these comments sound better suited for DU, oh well. It's the truth. And if anyone knows where I can buy meat that's been processed by American citizens earning a decent wage, let me know. I'll pay extra.
Can I get an "Amen!" from the congregation!
I’m glad to have found out about this. No more Swift products for me. I don’t want my meat being touched by those filthy buggers.
