Ladies Nights aren't sexist to men; Court of Appeals rejects Manhattan lawyer's claim _

The Manhattan lawyer who thinks the big problem with singles clubs is that women pay less to get in got the big brush off in court yesterday.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals rejected claims by self-proclaimed "anti-feminist lawyer" Roy Den Hollander that letting women past the velvet rope for free or half price on "Ladies Nights" violates the Constitution.

The state has no control because "liquor licenses are not directed related to the pricing scheme" at the door, the court said.

The court, with evident amusement, said it must rule against Den Hollander even though "without action on our part, (he) paints a picture of a bleak future, where 'none other than what's left of the Wall Street moguls' will be able to afford to attend nightclubs."

Den Hollander, who sued the Copacobana, China Club, Lotus and others, blames militant feminists for the ladies-pay-less door policies - not prowling promoters trying to lure women to the clubs.

"The guys are paying for girls to party. I don't think that's fair," Den Hollander said. "It's a transfer of money fom the wallets of guys to the pocketbooks of girls."

He vowed to appeal to the Supreme Court.

Asked to estimate the odds that the high court will agree to hear his case, Den Hollander said, "about the same as some pretty young lady paying my way on a date."

Memo to Den Hollander: trying to take freebies away from women isn't a terrific dating strategy.

What would the Judge’s decision if it had been a “white persons night” at the bar with the same details. If different, why?

If he wants to go to a bar without women, there are such places, I’m told.

No, "Den," the guys are paying to party with girls. They don't want to "party" with just each other. You seem to lack an intuitive understanding of this concept ...

And on what planet has this guy been living on his entire life? It surely isn’t Earth.

Have you noticed they keep lowering the age to pay the “adult” price? It’s fair, though - my 12-year-old can eat more in one meal than I eat in three days.

Okay, I understand the ruling - businesses have a right to create promotions, etc. But I guarantee you that if the bars were charging WOMEN more, the NOW gang would be suing for sex discrimination, and probably would win. So I am disturbed a bit by the double-standard...

This explains the pay discrepancies. Men need more beer money.

For an “anti-feminist lawyer”, this guy is really missing the value of discounts to try to get hot chicks into bars filled with guys who otherwise would be standing around looking stupid talking to each other.

Identity politics only mean something if it helps Democrats.

San Diego stopped referring to "minorities" when white people became a minority there.

Yes I have noticed this. I have one child at adult price, one kid price, and one free. When I have two adult prices and one kid price, we will be eating out alot less.

With your crew I don’t see how you ever eat out! They are beautiful, btw.

How did we get to the point that a judge has to decide this for us?

Now ask the judge why only men have to register for the draft.

Looking back on my dating days, if I remember right, I don’t think that I minded much.

Thanks! (I’m sure your kids are great - I was following your responses on the thread yesterday ;-).

We eat out very rarely, but once in a while we’re too far from home when everyone is starving, and we go to Cici’s Pizza or a Chinese buffet. Every three months, maybe - otherwise we get takeout if we aren’t cooking.

Women are advised to go seek “sport bars” by their peers “because that’s where men are”.

Ladies Night is a scam to make men think that there will be more women there.

Swingers nightclubs like Plato’s Retreat used to charge $50 a head to enter. Men could not enter by themselves (couples or ladies only).

It was not unheard of for a man to take a blind date there, pay the $100 and then ditch her as soon as he entered.

If clubs want to sell “private memberships” then are perfectly able to do so. They claim to be open to all comers. Some discriminate against the ugly (or nameless). You may stand behind the velvet rope all night and never enter. Not based on race. Not based on dresscode. But occasionally there will be a lawsuit alleging racism.
