Well, I’m not saying to ignore it, but schools are not meant to be prisons with students playing inmates and teachers playing corrections officers. To imagine that schools can somehow prevent bullying is to live in a fantasyland.

What’s with all the “needs to be put down” nonsense? Are you advocating that kids who bully someone be euthanized?

I had a situation when my son was 2. We were at a park and he was playing with his ball and this kid that looked to be about 10 walked up and took it away from him. I walked over and politely told him to give it back. He gave it back but within a few minutes he was back, took the ball from my son again, smiled at me and then took off. I followed him to his mother and politely told her that if he did not give the ball back and stay the hell away from my son, that I was gonna beat her @ss for raising such a brat. No more trouble from any of them. So that’s my answer, follow the kid home and taze the parent. ;)

Let me also add that the only reason I got involved was the obvious age difference. Otherwise, I’ve always taught my kids if someone hits you, you pick it up a notch and kick some teeth out. Always give it back worse, so they won’t forget. And if you know you’re about to fight, don’t be a putz and stand there and take the first punch. Lay em out and get it over with.

What is the difference in this and all the father’s who threaten to kill their daughter’s boyfirends?

*My statement is assuming that the kid Guerrero frightened was an actual bully*

Thanks for clarifying your point that it should not be ignored.

Don't be silly, put down, as in stopped (i.e., put down a rebellion/insurrection/riot. . .etc. . .).

Give the kid a copy of “Enders Game” by Orson Scott Card. Let him figure it out on his own.

Would have done the same. I imagine the kid received or should have received an A$$ whooping for embarassing her. Well in my case with the school, I had to get a child advocate at the cost of a grand and have a sit down with the school staff, teachers, a member of the school board and my advocate. The school board sided with us. They wanted to toss my kid out of school in 8th grade with no formal notificcation with only 5 weeks left until graduation. We told them to stick it and brought him to school. They went as far as to not let him in class and made him sit in a room all day for two or three days. Thats when I hired the advocate and put a stop to it. See they didn’t like my son complaining or getting mad about getting teased constantly. When he went after those that bothered him thats when the school tried to toss him. Well we won the day and he finished 8th grade there. He then went on to play four yrs of HS football and graduated with honors. The HS staff were so impressed with him that he was asked to mentor incoming freshman about bullying in HS and how to handle it.

Kind of funny. At my H.S. there were these two kids. One was a punk name DC and the other kid was CP. The Punk DC as such a $h!t that even the teachers didn’t like him. One time, DC picked on CP and CP beat the crap out of him. Of course CP got suspended for a few days. When he showed up in class with the unexcused absence slip, the teacher asked him what happened and CP mentioned that he got suspended for fighting DC. The teacher then asked if he beat the crap out of him and CP said yes and the teacher considered his absence excused and allowed him to make up his work.

This teacher was pretty cool and funny thing, he smoked in class and sometimes cussed up a storm. Back in the early ‘80’s, that was cool.

> We sent our two “nerds” to martial arts class. One of my daughters friends, who had a hand deformity, was being bullied by one of the school jocks.

> He stopped after Meg nearly broke his arm and stuffed him in his locker.

> The teacher that saw it, said nothing and walked away. I only found out about this a couple years later when the teacher told me.

Getting bullied sucks, but it is a part of growing up.

No sure I can capitulate on the issue so easily. I do get your point and cannot live in denial of human nature - but to assume that this is just about bullying is to ignore what's really going on in our schools. Without going into a huge spiel it seems that what we're facing is a product of the abject unwillingness for our culture (parents - this is more your problem then the schools) to embrace a Judeo-Christian morality.

Teach your kids the golden rule and it reinforced in school.

I'm the single dad of three kids and we talk about grace and redemption in context of the kids they see at school all the time. Bullying is a symptom of our inability to teach our kids the value of people - even the really sucky people like bullies.
