well lol.. i can still get mad cant i..there is still a little freedom left ...maybe...well maybe not
Well, it all depends on the occasion and the way in which you are holding up the fist. You would have to view footage of the Black Panthers in order to understand what the writer is saying. There really is a difference.
Why? Seriously, I still don’t get it and your response doesn’t clear this up at all. Does anyone seriously think McGraw is active in some white power movement? Does anyone care? I’ve lived in the South for 30 years and never heard of anything about a white power fist. Is this about not offending blacks?
I doubt Christians have tossed How Great Thou Art in the dust bin of history. In fact, I’m sure it will be sung far longer than Jesus Take the Wheel - which I’ve never heard of. But then, much of contemporary worship is entertainment, not worship.
After the couple’s obvious love affair began with Obama and their true colors came out, I totally tuned out Tim and Faith. Carrie rocks - have loved her since AI. Thanks for the great post.
“Of course a conservative white guy wouldnt want to channel Black Panthers anyhow.”
LOL. I don’t think he could even if he wanted to. He’d just look like a white guy with his fist in the air, which is why McGraw is a poser. I’m sure all the people in the “know” noted brotha Tim’s “solidarity”.
Fourth generation Southerner AND FReeper.
Oh, and please hold back grammar police, y'all are starting to sound like John F’ing Kerry's elitist neighbors!
I can understand why this is still a little muddy. Search the Black Panthers. Hopefully you can visit a site that is actually fair on the subject. This should shed light.
This has nothing to do with “white power”. It has everything to do with McGraw showing a little symbolism/solidarity.
Well, in all fairness, if you have ever witnessed Black Panthers and the “fist” you’d realize that there is a difference. You’ll note my quotations because the liberals don’t have a monopoly on the fist pump.
The fist in the air symbol has been used by dozens of radical groups over the past century and is certainly not exclusive to the black power movement. I guess the writer is saying McGraw is a radical? I never heard the song, so I’m not sure what that is about. I wish the article put this into better context.
Well hopefully we will get more freedoms after 2010 election and even more after 2012. This has been a horrible period of our lives but we did survive the 70’s and will survive this time too even though it is difficult.
Tim McGraw has been doing that as far back as I can remember and we have seen him in a number of concerts over many years.
Yes, Tim & Faith are big democrats. They have never made a secret of that. They still play great music.
They aren’t the Dixie Chicks by any means as far as I know.
The Tim McGraw thing is a stretch.
Well, I assure you that my pea picking heart isn’t worrying. And I rarely notice grammaticaticall eerrorrs.
I agree. He is a stretch.
Perhaps there is a video on YouTube. Maybe that will help to bring context to the topic.
Yes it is a stretch.
I'm curious...When did "they" do that?
I ask because that was my Mothers favorite hymn and I still get a bit misty when I hear it. Which I seem to hear fairly regularly...still.
Great song of worship as opposed to.....what was the other tune you mentioned?
