Hollywood studios shelved film projects in the 1930s that were “overly critical” of Nazism.

That was only during the Soviet-Nazi non-aggression pact. Hollywood was a nest of commies who received their marching orders from Stalin. However, the studio heads were not commies. That's why the anti-Nazi film Watch on the Rhine was made against (commie) writer Lilian Hellman's wishes.

There was some evidence that they shut down anti-Nazis projects in the 1930s because they didn’t want to lose Germany as a prospective export market for films.
