The real 2001: Scientists teach robots how to trick humans
Daily Mail ^ | September 10, 2010 | Niall Firth

It sounds like something straight out of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

But, in a chilling echo of the computer Hal from the iconic film, scientists have developed robots that are able to deceive humans and even hide from their enemies.

An experiment by researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology is believed to be the first detailed examination of robot deception.

The team developed computer algorithms that would let a robot ‘decide’ whether it should deceive a human or another robot and gave it strategies to give it the best chance of not being found out.

I’m sure nothing bad will come of this. They had the best intentions after all.

What’s new about this? I thought Al Gore had been trying to deceive us about global warming for more than a decade now.

All they have to do is program the robot using Alinsky’s handbook of sleeze.

Yeah, but you know what? They haven't invented time travel or someone would have come back to see us.

On the other hand, maybe all the BS going on in the world today are people who have come back in time who want to alter the future!/SAR

I really don't like the idea of machines being able to think, it opens up to many possibilities of machines running amok.

If we aren’t being visited by travelers from the future, it could be due to:

1. Travel back in time is not possible; or,
2. For the human race, there is no future.

...and now he has the programming to lie to us.

Come to think of that, all the terminators have that programming.

If our current crop of politicians is aware of this, how much do you want to bet that they are dreaming up applications for the use misuse use of this new programming?

I think all of this is cooler than sh!t.

I met a woman last night who is part of a program to have robots work with developmentally disabled children...some extension of a NASA program.

The Robots actually self-adjust to the child they are assigned to...spoken language vs sign language...helping them eat or helping them get a couple of laps around the yard in a wheelchair.

They remember names and every part of every "conversation" they had with the kid.

WILD STUFF going on with robotics right now.
