Cowlishaw: 'Really dumb' decision at end of half dooms Cowboys
The Dallas Morning News ^ | September 13, 2010 | TIM COWLISHAW

LANDOVER, Md. – Sometimes 60 minutes of football comes down to one terrible decision by the offensive coordinator. Sometimes one chorus of "Hail to the Redskins" after a touchdown is all that it takes.

The Cowboys gave the Washington Redskins seven points on the last play of the first half, and in a game in which both offenses were supremely challenged, that was the difference.

Dallas was a 13-7 loser at FedEx Field on a night when, well, you can't say the Cowboys deserved to win, but they certainly weren't destined to lose.

Not until one ridiculous call, anyway.

In a situation where the only reasonable thing for the Cowboys to do was to have Tony Romo take a knee, Garrett called a pass play. This was 64 yards from the Redskins' goal line and with four seconds to go in the first half.

And instead of heaving a deep ball, Romo threw short to Tashard Choice. Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall stripped Choice of the ball, recovered the fumble and ran 37 yards for Washington's only touchdown of the night.

The game would end with Garrett and the offense getting a chance at redemption – one final shot at the Washington end zone from the 13-yard line. But a holding call on tackle Alex Barron kept Romo's final pass to Roy Williams from meaning anything.

There was some measure of justice in that. You simply don't deserve a shot to win when you make a call as brutally bad as the one the Cowboys called at the end of the half.

Well, on the bright side, the Cowboys and Broncos have identical records...

The toss to Choice was a bonehead move, the RB was obviously not ready for it after the play broke down.

It’s not Tashard’s fault.

Two teams played some horrible football and one of them had to win, neither really deserved to.

I watched some really bad football on Sunday and this game took the prize for the most inept, error filled bunglefest seen in a long time.

Or to quote Homer Simpson,

Those teams sure did suck last night! They just plain sucked. I’ve seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked!

“Worst Head Coach, ever.”

The Bucs fans would beg to differ.

I’ve never seen a worse prepared undisciplined team in my life, and Garrett has been a major disappointment.

If Jerry wants to find a decent head coach, all he has to do is travel to Fort Worth to the TCU campus.

I am thinking the same. If he doesn’t ahve a big year, they need to get rid of him. I am frankly shocked Jones has kept him this long. He is hardly the personality I see Jones looks for to lead his franchise. When you look at the NFC east, he is by far the worst of the four coaches. Two have Super Bowl rings and the third has been there.

I also am getting more suspect of The O Coordinator Garrett. He was elevated to a very high pedestal a couple years ago, but this offense so frequently is under performing, that I am not sure he is not a problem, too.

Ouch, over hyped team plays stupid (aka Tony Romo). Its what they do. I don’t see Wade being there next year. Go Skins.

I just don’t understand how they could even think of throwing to anybody but Miles Austin on that last drive. Roy Williams is totally useless, and it would have been worth it to cut him, even with the hit to the salary cap.

And who was the idiot that thought trading for Barron was a good idea? There’s a reason the worst team in football last year decided to let him go.

Didn't watch.

Couldn't decide which team I wanted to see lose more than the other.
