OPEN LETTER TO GEN. PETRAEUS (Please re-post to anti-jihad sites)
Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult.
Gen. David Petraeus
General, I ask you this: what in hell is your mission if We The People jeopardize it by exercising our First Amendment rights in our own homeland? Is your mission to defend our rights against foreign enemies, or to defend foreign enemies against our rights?
You made your choice, and you justified it by claiming that you and those under your command have been taken hostage by our 7th Century terrorist enemy, and that the ransom demand you deliver to us is that we submit to your captors restrictions on our natural and constitutional rights or theyll kill you.
I remind you and your captors that we do not negotiate with terrorists.
And I remind you that you are the most revered general in the present day, commanding in the most powerful military in all of history, during the most justifiable war in the last seventy years. So please either remember your priorities and slaughter your captors, or resign in disgrace so that we may replace you with a warrior. And if you resign, you should do so right along with President Obama, Gen. Caldwell, Pentagon Spokesman Lapan, Sec. of State Clinton, Atty. Gen. Holder, NATO Sec. Rasmussen and all others in all branches of government and in all alliances who echoed your request, whether they did so mindlessly or with surrender aforethought.
To have our own military leaders beg us to refrain from exercising our Constitutional rights on our own soil is completely un-American. And to have you make that request of us in the name of cowardice is a shocking and unthinkable perversion I still dont have the words for.
But I do have the plan for it. We The People will force the issue right here and now. We dont want harm to come to our military, but if peacefully exercising our rightful freedom on our own property here in our own homeland endangers you, then we will endanger you!
We will burn the Koran for freedom and post the videos for all the world to see. We can be overt or covert, named or anonymous, sparse or numerous but ultimately we will be unstoppable, and eventually we will be effective.
We will do this because you have no f*****g right to sell our freedom down the river for the sake of our enemys sensitivity. We will do it because you more than have the power to defend yourselves against that enemy if only you would use it. We will do it because facing danger to defend our rightful freedom is why we pay you, train you, equip you, promote you, appoint you, deploy you, and formerly! revere you.
You work for us, General, not for our enemy. Therefore we will regain control over you and over this war from the command center of our own backyards. We will force you to end any of your appeasement and nation-building which would restrict our Constitutional rights. We will force you to defend yourselves and us, and to do the job you were appointed to do: destroy the enemy in defense of our freedom.
Our military has the power. We hired you to use it. Now well make sure you do.
When Americans can burn our own copies of the Koran on our own soil without credible threats from jihadists or appeasement of those threats from our President and our Generals, then we will gladly stop burning them.
We are a free people, and although we clearly live in occupied territory psychologically, we do not yet live in occupied territory legally or physically. We will do as we please, and we will continue to expect all branches of our government to secure our right to do it.
I remind you that securing our rights is the only legitimate reason that governments are instituted among men in the first place, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
And not everybody among the governed consents to surrendering our rights to terrorists.
Freedom for all,
Chuck Prime
This letter is about as well thought out as piece of dirt.
?????
If one feels moved to burn the Koran, I recommend reading at least a few passages out loud to the widest possible audience first.

You are entirely within your COTUS 1A right to say so.
.
Also,
.
and finally,
!
I certainly cannot imagine the commanders during WWII pleading with private citizens not to burn copies of Mein Kampf for fear of offending Hitler.
Fight like Vietnam, finish like Vietnam.
Win hearts and minds?
Two rounds in the heart, one in the mind, and Win!
Gee, I don't suppose you would share with us your well-reasoned and enlightened opinion on how we should [have] responded to the blackmail and threats by Islamo-Fascists and the cowardly "Submissive" responses by Patreus and Dear Leader?
You’ve heard it said that our Constitution was never supposed to be a suicide pact.
The idea is that twisted or contrived logic can always be found such that the Constitution is used against itself, and that we should recognize and prevent this from happening.
This is what the idea of koran burning does. First—let’s get real. Nobody really feels that passionate about burning a koran. It just doesn’t have that kind of meaning or impact, not to a sincere patriotic American.
Think of it this way. Nothing man can write on paper or devise in his mind can ever match the real world. Whether it’s a poem, a mathematical equation, a piece of fiction or a system of laws. Just ask Robert Burns or Werner Heisenberg. Or the Founding Fathers. It’s that same old gap separating theory from reality.
So when this gap is encountered, our job is to use common sense. I’ll say it again—there is no genuine patriot who thinks burning a koran is worth the life of American troops.
Politically we have the right to burn the Koran, but theologically we do not. I was quite upset that Petraeus was ordered to make the request to not burn it but not surprised given his CIC.
A general knowingly sends his soldiers into harms way so his request and the wording to keep them safe is proof enough he was ordered to say this and probably had to for the President of Afghanistan, too.
It was no doubt disheartening to our soldiers and as a recruit mom it angers me and scares me about those who follow the wrong orders
We could simply fight wars the way we’ve always done, and win.
Not pretend we care so much about burning korans. Nobody really cares about it, or really wants to do it.
Actually, there's nothing that I would not put past 0bama if it would further his undermining of the USA as it has existed for 200 plus years. The man is a clear and present danger to our way of life. Period.
Do you somehow believe that our troops are over there on some sort of "peace keeping" mission, and that provoking the enemy will bring them from a state of non-aggression to one of full aggression? Like they've been holding back all this time?
You, sir, are an idiot.
Great letter and right on the mark.
I think we should fight the way General Patton fought.
But winning wars is one thing, and burning korans is something entirely different.
Common sense will tell us where the idiocy lies.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I agree with the writer the General needs to do his Job and get more Ammo if he needs it,His Duty is to Kill the enemy.
Now we are in agreement. And to get to where we once again, if ever, have generals like Patton there needs to happen a sea change in Washington. It could happen, but as we know even Patton eventually got throttled back.
If Patton had served under the first Roosevelt presidency I suspect the 20th century would have had an entirely different outcome.
If Patton were here today he would kick the koran burners back to their mommies basement.
Of all people, Patton would understand the stupidity of “koran burning.”
