For first time in months, President Obama attends church publicly

President Obama publicly attended church Sunday morning for the first time in nearly six months, and shortly after a major survey showed that only a third of Americans can correctly identify Obama's faith as Christian.

The first family attended the 9 a.m. service at St. John's Church Lafayette Square, an Episcopal congregation about a block from the White House.

The Obamas - the president, first lady Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha - made the trip on foot.

The family sat a few rows from the altar, among roughly 40 worshippers. Each family member received communion, led by the president.

St. John's rector, the Rev. Luis Leon, preached on the weekly gospel reading, Luke 16:1-13, which ends, "You cannot serve God and wealth," in the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

The visit, Obama's first public trip to church since Easter, comes several weeks after a major survey showed that a substantial and growing number of Americans believe that Obama, a self-described Christian, is Muslim

Must be an election in a couple of weeks.

Gads how much credit for intelligence do they give us?

I'm actually embarrassed for him.

40 parishioners. Glad to see The Episcopal Church has such a robust congregation in the Nation's Capitol, now that they are "inclusive" and everything.

I was thinking the same thing. There are many reasons for small congregations . . . just starting up, rural area with small population, a "mission" church in a new area . . . or they are a dying church that does not teach God's word, and subsequently, don't meet the spiritual needs of the congregation.

Wonder which one this is?

When they point to this event, point to Bishop Schori’s statements that deny the divinity of Christ. The Episcopal Church is not a Christian Church, it is a church of the moment, of anti-Christian values. It betrays the very rocks it was built upon.

But I’m sure they have punch and pie.

Sheesh, we have more parishioners in the bathroom at any point than this place's whole congregation.

Whereas God welcomes every sole seeking Him, I suspect He gets a twinge of righteous anger when a schmuck uses Him for socio-political gain. And, perhaps, He gets outright steamed when a follower of another god (ie. allah) uses His church to deceive Christians. For the sake of Obama's afterlife I pray his intentions on the this church going are legitimate. If not, Mr. Obama may just be gambling with his very soul. Judgement Day approaches us all.

I wouldn’t stretch my ignorance that far.

Focus group suggestions on how to improve image;

1) Resign
2) Shoot Pelosi and Reid
3) Attend church

Damn, I was really hoping for one of the others.

Naw, it was prolly the early service. He didn’t want to be too disruptive, doncha know, so he stayed away from the well attended service with the Praise Band and powerpoint projector beaming the choruses on the wall.

Wait, that’s Fr. Pfleger’s church.

No, Pfleger has the strobe lights. It’s that megachurch in Hammond whose pastor is pastoring Barry via Blackberry that has the praise band and the powerpoints.

At the early service at St. John Episcopal the prolly use the 1928 Prayer Book. Better for the kids, ya know.

Not that church. The Presiding Bishop, as in the head of the Episcopal Church of the United States, made such statements.

I don’t understand. Are you saying it’s ignorant to point to the head of the Episcopal Church and cite her comments that deny Christ’s divinity, and question that His divinity is even important?

The clergy of the Episcopal Church of the USA was well aware of the reason many parishes chose to split. Most congregations were well informed as well. They chose their sides, and some sided with the woman who leads the church and denies Christ’s teachings in favor of being “inclusive.”

That’s what I was thinking. Not much of a collection there. How does this Church stay open?

Man that bias stinks to high heaven. IMO, there's no overt evidence that suggests that 0bama follows any religion.
