Actually, I oftentimes find that the TEACHERS are the ONLY ones being blamed for the students’ failures. I see this from the opposite end of the spectrum, being that I view this situation from the TEACHERS’ side of the desk. Parents are free from blame; students cannot be expected to be responsible or accountable for fear of the accusing parties being labeled “racist”; administrators don’t support the discipline policies in place for fear of “offending” a certain demographic; and legislators believe they can effectively implement “plans” meant to improve education without having the SLIGHTEST idea what the environment of a classroom consists of from a TEACHER’S perspective.
Oh, bless you, you understand, you’re a teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me too & I work in a district that is so oppressive that Mondays seem like a walk to the gas chamber. We are expected to perform miracles.......impossible miracles. Ghetto administrations will never be replaced, teachers can’t complain, they basically expect us to work w/ non parented, non functioning children & turn them into Harvard scholarship students.
Anyone who doesn’t have up close experience w/ education...... you have NO idea how bad it truly is! Only other teachers know we are not exaggerating about the conditions we work under. On the front page of my newspaper it says Obama wants to lengthen the school year. Yeah, that will really help.........
Sorry, I saw your post & felt like a drowning woman reaching for the liferaft of someone who understands! Thanks.......we can’t & should not have to be parents for children who aren’t parented & then get all the blame.
No, I really think most people like and admire teachers. They do get a lot of abuse; and i think it makes them touchy. Every criticism seems to be directed at them, even if people don’t intend that.
So please be assured that I blame nothing on teachers. They are foot soldiers in a huge army. They make no policy; they make no decisions.
My culprit of choice is the top commissars. These people not only make one bad decision after another, then they hide behind teachers, etc. Change the people at the top; and the teacher’s life will be much improved.
Incredibly, few critics are willing to blame the students themselves.
A century ago teachers with minimal training in one room schoolhouses had more success. Their students were motivated and wanted to learn. A large percentage of present day students are totally unmotivated.
