"Like the name of Bilbo Baggins' sword, threats being made by acting unions regarding production of The Hobbit are really starting to sting.
So much so that Peter Jackson, the executive producer behind the Lord of the Rings prequel, is now suggesting that shooting could very well move to Eastern Europeor even shut downif things don't get resolved with the various acting unions in New Zealand that are encouraging its members not to work on a film that employs nonunion actors."

This is why never to trust unions, they sometimes cost jobs even for their own members, just yesterday I heard of a GM plant in a small town in Indiana (don’t remember which one), who’s members voted overwhelmingly NOT to negotiate with potential buyers of their plant, the other option being that GM SHUT DOWN THE PLANT! How do you say “stupid”?
Ive been gone from New Zealand for 40 years...
but when I was young you could get a job that wasnt union...
ever job was closed shop...
Tjhe day you staqrted work the union boss was there with his hand out...
Even before Morning TEA Time...Sacrilege !!!
Who can think before TEA and bickies ???

That's easy: Democrat Party union hack.
Sounds like the first LOTR series made so much money that the Unions have their hands out as well looking for a payday.
Jackson worked insanely hard on LOTR, the Hobbit project is almost as ambitious.
It is all about jobs. Not jobs for you or me, but only for the unions. Give us our tithe, or we’ll spit in your face. And when you do give us our tithe, well, we gotta spit somewhere..
Unions deserve to starve.
I hope they close up shop and move to a more business friendly atmosphere.
Hobbit ping!
New Zealand has a deregulated labour market and unionism is voluntary, governed by the Employment Relations Act 2000. Being voluntary means anyone is also entitled to join or form a Union.
It’s interesting that the Union making a lot of the noise is an Australian one. As Aussie law has no jurisdiction in NZ, Peter Jackson has rightly told them to butt out.
The Screen Actors Guild are rightly calling the Hobbit a non-union production.
