Yesterday I posted about my 4th graders Veteran's Day Essay. First, I would like to say thank you to (almost) everyone for their feedback. I have spoken with the office of the Babylon Town Supervisor, and I was surprised by the outcome of our conversation. The town officials do not choose the topic of the Veteran's Day Essay Contest. They give the schools the choice to make it a mandatory assignment or one that can be used for extra credit. My daughter's school slightly modified the wording of the project. The original topic was: "Do you believe the USA should fight for another country's freedom?" I especially would like to thank the veterans here who gave me their viewpoint, I had made an assumption on how this project would have been insulting to you or not shown proper respect. I got more of an education and food for thought here than I expected. Thanks to everyone for making me look at things from a different perspective. The most enlightening thing for me yesterday was that the topic was chosen by a Veteran's Advisory Board made up of all veterans that works with the town. I believe my daughter will be able to write an excellent essay.
You’re welcome. FReepers are always glad to help one another. Hope your daughter gets a A+ on her report.

((I’m still stuned from that snarky reply you made to me. Even though I deserved it.))
