Another IRS hoop
The IRS ^

Posted on 10/11/2010 8:58:52 AM PDT by Leaning Right

I just received Notice 1400 from our friends at the IRS. I'm sure that you'll get one too.

The bottom line is that they will no longer be mailing out tax forms and instructions.

You've got to hunt them down yourself by going to the internet, your local post office, etc. After Jan 10, 2011 you can also call to get the forms if "you are experiencing a hardship."

All I can say is this: if I have to fill out a form under penalty of law, the least that they can do is send me the form.

Oh no! The horror!

I haven’t filed a paper return in years. I’d rather not have another piece of government printed trash in my mailbox.

Friend, my concern is not about you. It’s about the many, many folks out there with no internet access.

Why should they be forced to jump yet another government hoop? It least they should be given the option of still receiving paper tax forms.

So, they are saving some of the confiscated monies the government stole from us to pay for union pensions, or such?

I understand tracking down the form is a pain in the rear. But I've been spending the $50 or so it takes to get a good piece of tax filing software every year. I used to buy the tome by J.K. Lassar, but now I get the same deductions just answering the questions.

And, year, the cost of the program is fully tax-deductible. This doesn't make me love the fuster cluck of a system we have, but it does help keep me from going postal.

Go to the post office or the library. It’s not a big deal.

Oh, really, not a big deal?

Please tell that to the folks who live quite a distance from a post office and do not even have a local library.

I don’t understand why the IRS won’t allow people to choose to continue to receive tax forms through the mail.

And I don’t understand why so many folks think it’s no big deal for the government to add yet another layer of inconvenience to an already frustrating process.

Our Tax System is one of Voluntary Compliance

You volunteer to comply, and we'll volunteer to not seize all your assets and throw your sorry butt in jail.

I have thought for some time that some SNL like parody show could have unprecedented success if they would dare take on the tyranny of the IRS.

I see a sketch where someone was having their house taken because they made a rounding error and underpaid by 37 cents so they have to sign over their kids for sale in Thailand or something like that. But most taxpayers would probably think that was too kind of a portrayal

I used to get any forms I needed from the local library or post office before the internet.

I had to jump through the same hoop then. What’s the difference now?

Well, I don’t have a local library. And our post office is small. They do not carry all the forms many folks need.

Yeah, I’ve got an internet connection. And I know how to search and download stuff. But that’s not convenient, or even true, for everyone.

I’m not inclined to give the government any more of my time than I need to: If you want me to fill out a form, send me the form! Simple, no?

exactly, funny thing is, that sentence used to be printed in the 1040 booklet, page 1 first paragraph. It was a statement by the IRS Commissioner on Income Tax in America, Clinton had it removed.

I'll continue ordering the forms, instruction books and various publications that have anything to do with my taxes. If they (and especially Congress) want to save money on printing and mailing those to me, they'll have to simplify the tax code. Make the code more complicated and I'll order more documents.
