Movie making is a legitimate reason for closing a public street? Movie companies generally pay substantial fees to cities, to be able to do this. Cities often consider it to be worthwhile.

The transformer vehicles are all parked in the lot next door. Lots of people taking pictures with Optimus Prime (aka a tractor trailer. Go figure)

When you fill out the paperwork and get the licenses and pay the fees yes movie making is a legitimate reason to close a public street. These guys didn’t just start filming in the street and expect the cops (some of whom are involved in the filming) to co-operate, there’s months worth of paperwork and thousands of dollars in above the table (and often at least as much below the table) fees to be paid.
