If that lady had been armed (and equipped with ear protection), one round and the bear would be on the way to the freezer.
That’s what being an animal is all about - they are hungry.
Adorable story. Thanks.
I just ate and now this thread is making me hungry. I have no pork roasts thawed out though.
Adorable story. Thanks.
Ice pops from the womamn’s what?
Predictable response from the kill and destroy contingent.
When they start breaking into houses, they need to be shot. We had the same problem in our neck of the woods this year.
Most bears know to keep their distance. When you get an aggressive one, they need to be dispatched to keep people safe.
The bear knew exactly where to go. Clearly it had been casing the place before it struck.
The kill the inability to think of alternatives seems to be a defining factor of the kill and destroy contigent.

That is hilarious. I had to hide my peas. My mom didn't allow me to just push them off to the side. My favorite hiding place was my leftover baked potato skin.
I’m guessing you live somewhere that affords no chance that a bear will break into your house and do thousands of dollars in damage?
Ahh... I’ll have to check the baked potato skins! Usually I try to get them to eat their veggies but I think my ratio of other ingredients to peas was way off, even for me. If I couldn’t eat what I created, I couldn’t force it on others! It was suppose to be a fun camping trip, not tortuous!
She said he had been coming around for the last four days. I guess he was casing the joint.
He was smarter than the average bear.
Maybe it wasn’t the freezer...
Might have been her time of month. Bears have an extreme sense of smell, and I’ve heard horror stories about women being attacked and even devoured by bears if the time is wrong.
Of course that would only make them more PO’d....
One alternative would be to trap the bear attracted to a residence by the smell of food, and make sure that he has a bad/stressful time, before releasing him.
Once the bear’s learned that breaking into home = tasty treats, he most certainly is going to repeat this type of “foraging.”
If you’re the homeowner though, you’d have to put your trust in someone else on handling the situation for you. Otherwise, you’re on your own - the bear’s coming back and the scenario may play differently next time. You’d like to feel safe in your own home, so an appropriate sized firearm should always be an option.
I tried to read your about page, but it is blank.
Your response seems to be some sort of enviro-socialism infected implication that I support shooting all animals. You would be assuming wrongly, as I find animals fascinating.
That interest in animals is why I studied zoology and ecology, and since the animal on two legs is even more interesting, I studied history, and even took time to build a complex lab funded by a NASA grant.
Even though I was once a Sierra Club FLEXCOM member, I knew better than seeing animals as other than what they are - animals, not people.
Human life is more valuable than animal life. Therefore, I have no difficulty accepting that once a bear is acclimated to human presence and learns to not fear entering a human residence, said bear must be killed.
No bear is worth a human life, not even an animal rights whacko.
Re-locating predators is just government make work for biologists and animal nut/fruit-cake types. The reality is that predators are not scarce, that they reproduce beyond the ability of the habitat to support them and must compete for survival.
When a bear is relocated, it usually returns, which requires recurring relocations, which means job security for the “animal relocation experts”. Such “experts” are supported by taxpayers whose hard earned dollars are wasted by these government trough feeders.
Worse yet is that “relocated” animals kill people. Look up Frank Evert, bear attack, on Google.
May I suggest less of a hard ball political attitude, and more hard data before posting? Just a suggestion.
