I’ve never heard of this show; what is it, like X-Files or something?

It is X-filey; however, if you are interested, you need to rent the entire seasons one and two. At this point, there is just no way to "jump into" this program. Especially now that we are into alternative universe jumping.

I will say, that I still think the premiere episode of Fringe is just a great episode. It's interesting, exciting, a little eerie and scary.

It will be interesting to see if ‘Bolivia’ (’Bad Olivia’) has a crisis of conscious or crisis of faith as she interacts with Walter and Peter.

Given last week's episode, I think that's the direction she's headed.

I am convinced that the alternate world is a Fascist one created if the Nazis won WWII. It is fully state controlled and they use dirigibles.

From what I can see, the alternate world looks more like a place where the Civil War may not have happened and that the War of 1812 may have had a different outcome:

Notice that West Virginia and Virginia are still a single state and that Michigan has no upper peninsula (among other differences).

Pretty dang close...it’s like the 2000 version of X-Files.

Fringe follows the exploits of special agent Olivia Dunham, mad scientist Walter Bishop, and his son, jack-of-all-trades Peter Bishop, as they investigate aspects of fringe science ranging from transhumanist experiments gone wrong to the apocalyptic prospect of a technological singularity to the possible existence of parallel universes. Roberto Orci, a co-creator, commented that Fringe “took its inspiration from The X-Files”, but will “differentiate through the characters,” and be a whole new take on the genre.

* Washington is called Southern British Colombia
* California is missing half of the state (perhaps because of the “big one”)
* Nevada is called Independent Nevada
* Texas is divided into North and South Texas (+1)
* North and South Dakota are combined into one Dakota (-1)
* Kansas and Oklahoma are combined into one Midland (-1)
* Louisiana is called Louisiana Territory
* Michigan is missing its upper half
* North and South Carolina are combined into one Carolina (-1)
* Virginia and West Virginia are combined into one District of Virginia (-1)

Based on the pluses and minuses, that would give us 47 states, assuming we count Hawaii and Alaska.

When Olivia discovered that she was a test subject as a child of Walter Bishop and Massive Dynamic's elusive founder and chairman WILLIAM BELL (guest star Leonard Nimoy), it triggered a search for details about her forgotten and perplexing past. Her findings uncovered the existence of a parallel universe and she recovered her childhood ability to detect objects from this parallel universe, which shockingly led her to learn that Peter is from the "other side."

Did you watch Lost? I can't believe I've missed this show... Are the first seasons out on DVD?

Peter was never intimate with the good Olivia so he has no point of reference.

Episode Synopsis:On the Other Side, Olivia tries to handle a series of kidnappings with connections to Colonel Broyles, while turning to a hidden ally to find a way back home.

And remember...since next week is Thanksgiving, the next episode (Episode 8 - Entrada) will air 12/2/2010.
