answered by the discovery of a collection of knobbly skeletons in
a London cemetery.

IIRC, The PBS series “Secrets of The Dead” mentioned these skeletons in
England...as well as similarly suspected skeletons in Greece (from
classical times?)
as showing that syphilis was in Europe/England well before Columbus
“sailed the ocean blue”.
