And of course it bears ABSOLUTELY NO resemblance whatsoever to the German Sturmgewehr 44 used on the Eastern Front and captured by the Russians in great numbers, and is ABSOLUTELY 1000% ORIGINAL RUSSIAN DESIGN.

wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more

I try to capture those in BF1942 Secret Weapons whenever possible.

Austin Powers remarks how the English countryside in no way looks nothing like southern California does the 44 not resemble the 47.

It is pretty amazing how the USSR invented aircraft, cars, telephones, television, and untold numbers of devices that changed the way the whole world lives.

Didn’t they try and claim baseball and basketball too?

“And of course it bears ABSOLUTELY NO resemblance whatsoever to the German Sturmgewehr 44”

The concept behind the guns are the same, so it does not seem surprising to me that the the guns look similar. There are major differences in internals, the ammo, the specs, the manufacturing processes, and the way the whole thing comes together. It is doubtful that Kalashnikov had seen an MP43, the predecessor to the Sturmgewehr 44 when he first started penciling out the design in his hospital bed in 1943. It is hard to say what influence the Sturmgewehr had on his final design.

The AK is a great gun for having fun at the range. The 7.62x39 cartridge is great for reloading cast bullets made from wheel weights. So you can shoot the gun for a fraction of the price of other rifles either by reloading using homemade bullets $.10 a piece in total or by purchasing cheap surplus rounds, currently around $.20 a piece.

Generally the people who berate the AK either haven't owned one or bought a super cheap one that was pressed together by people who couldn't care less about the finished product. One of the amazing things about an AK is if you get one that was assembled badly... with the right tools you can often pull it back apart then reassemble it with care and turn out with a gun that works perfectly.

My wife is small so she loves her 30 carbine, which is also a great gun for cast bullets. The AK is my favorite.
