We gain an extra hour by turning the clock back this weekend, and fire officials are asking you to spend some of that extra time up on a stool or ladder to check your smoke detectors. Cedar Rapids Fire Department spokesman Greg Buelow says its something that can save your life, or the lives of others.
He says you should put a fresh battery in your smoke alarms and test them to see that they work. You should also test your carbon monoxide detector. Buelow says a working smoke alarm reduces your risk of dying in a fire by 50-percent. Buelow says it may also be time to replace an old detector.
Buelow says the sensors start failing on smoke alarms after about 10 years, so you should change them if they are that old to be sure they are in optimal condition. Buelow says new smoke alarms also provide more protection. He says the state now requires dual sensor smoke alarms that detect different types of fire with photoelectric cells and ionization cells, and they offer the maximum protection. Buelow says the alarms are a vital warning tool
Buelow says most fatal fires happen between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. when people are in a real deep sleep. Buelow says they continue to push people to have working smoke detectors, but a review of last month showed only one third of the fire calls were to residences that had working detectors.
“Time to turn back the clock and check the smoke detector “
Especially in California. What were they smoking when they elected Jerry Brown???
But my smoke detector doesn’t have a clock in it!
I thought we turned back the clocks at 1am, but now that I have awoken, I check my old technology Seico analog wristwatch to see that none of the digital computerized devices have been automatically changed yet. My FR posts still haven’t changed yet.
What time this morning do we change?
(about to search the Internet)
In about 20 minutes, the Daylight Savings Time vortex will begin to appear, to suck us back in time an hour. At 2am it will become 1am, or at 1am in the future, it will have been 2am.
Hmmm,..will we be able to find this post in 30 minutes or will we fall into a parallel universe?
My husband, a firefighter, has never pulled a dead body out of a home with functioning smoke detectors, or a dead body out of a car with a seat belt on. Not saying it doesn’t happen, just sayin’. Oh, and as an aside, the union guys he works with on a regular basis all voted republican!
It only works if you’re sleeping, otherwise you will become stuck in the “now”.
I forget the local Mpls. cartoonist back in the 70’s - but I recall the one cartoon. Two older ladies talking. The one says “I don’t like this daylight savings thing. I’m at the age now where I just don’t feel comfortable making changes at two-o’clock in the morning.”
Yes, but can you tell if I posted this 30 seconds ago, or about an hour from now, in an attempt to change the future?
Smoke detectors suck. I have to wrap mine with a towel so I can cook.
Make mine extra rare...;^)
We only have about 5 minutes left to change the future, or did I post this an hour from now so I could change the future already?
LOL... My brain is starting to hurt... off to sleep. ;>)
Hold me!
I’m scared!
G’morning, what time is it
1 minute for Database Administrators to change their update policies from FIFO to LIFO,...teeheehee
The vortex is forming!
Wait!,,..I posted that an hour ago!,...or did I,...am I clairvoyant or forgetful?
Oh, thought I just had to go to the bathroom
