Red Bull technical chief Adrian Newey does not want team orders to get involved in the finale to the season that could see either of the team's drivers crowned world champion. Newey said of the battle for supremacy between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber: "It is a drivers' championship and that means there shouldn't be team orders." However, he also said: "If one of our drivers is out of it, then I hope he would be magnanimous to help the other."

Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina venue can stay on the F1 calendar "for ever", according to F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

After rain affected the previous three Grands Prix, the drivers could be forgiven for thinking they would be basking in sunshine in Abu Dhabi for the final weekend of the season. But the rain appears to have followed the F1 teams to the desert with light showers falling on Tuesday and Wednesday - so rare is precipitation in that part of the world that it made the local news. More rain is forecast over the weekend, although race day looks sunny.

Daniel Ricciardo will test for Red Bull in the sessions for young drivers at Abu Dhabi next week. The Australian, who is their test and reserve driver, also drove for them in last year's test.

Last race of the season, but I think I’ll post this little ‘heads up’ advice again.

formula1.com allows you to view in real time the official timing monitor (follow the ‘live timing’ link - these days you have to register first, but it’s still free).

I like to have this screen up on my laptop while watching the sessions on a second monitor (or TV or whatever you’re using). It also provides a load of other information. Just explore it a bit. Great to have the info for the full field when the TV feed only shows bits and pieces (the front runners, mostly).

This Sunday I think I’ll go and watch the race on a big screen at a local sports bar with a few friends, though.

Lewis Hamilton has admitted he would love to see Mark Webber emerge victorious in this year's Formula world title race if he cannot claim the championship for himself. "He has been told by his team what position he is and against adversity he has kept at it," Hamilton said. "He has done an awesome job."

Formula 1 drivers are well-versed in the use of extreme measures in the pursuit of speed but Fernando Alonso, the 2010 championship leader, has taken things a stride further by having his legs waxed. "I'm surprised how he was able to take the pain," said Hamilton. "Mark [Webber] pointed it out and was asking: 'How far has it gone up?' I was like: 'Wow, they are shiny.'"

Former F1 driver Jean Alesi says it is "not true" that Red Bull will not use team orders to win the title if they need them. "They are trapped because of the way they have discussed it," he said. "They have tried to say they are clean and they don't do it, but that is misinformation. It is not true. They will definitely use it."

Former FIA president Max Mosley says there is "no doubt that this championship will be devalued if Alonso wins and the points obtained by breaking the rules on team orders define the final result". (The Times)

If Fernando Alonso prevails on Sunday by seven points or fewer, the knives will come out for the Spaniard and his team. It would be a shame indeed were that to be the case. Alonso has driven brilliantly since mid-season.
