Congrats on the big win AU fans. That was a great game by both teams and was a clinic on old school, slobber knocking, SEC football.

You have been added.

Your comment about the commentators are the exact reason I listen to the Auburn ISP network while watching the game. Hubby doesn’t like to do that, the lack of sync bothers him, so I put the head phones on. But that got hubby upset, too, because I wasn’t hearing HIS commentary either. LOL! Most of the time the play over the radio was behind the play on TV.

Thank you, vigilant. I don’t think I’ve heard the term slobber-knocking before, but it fits! That game is always tough. I remember one from back in the ‘60s, perhaps it was when Mike Kolen was on the team. We won unexpectedly. On the playback the next day, the Bear says at one point, “Now you Bama people can turn off your tvs from this point on. This next play is enough to make you upchuck.” LOL!

I meant to include this in the previous response:

I woke up this AM still feeling relieved. Those outside of this competition have no idea how much rides on this game. It isn’t “just a game.” I included the story how an entire college building was donated because of this game. And that is just one incident! There are so many more things that just don’t get told much. So, I am relieved. Our win makes life a tad bit more comfortable. For the next year.

Morning Jemian! I felt the same way.... had to pinch myself to remember if it was real!! Just sat with my first cup of coffee and enjoyed the memory. We had 3 generations of Auburn fans in our den - all tense, moaning, ... then cheering and hugging! It was a great night!!

So enjoyed "meeting" you and hope you keep me on the Auburn ping list! The photo of Toomer's Corner was awesome! I'm going to poke around online to see more photos and commentary... If you see anything of note - please send me a ping about it!

Just have to say it again...... WAR EAGLE!!!! My son just went to the Ga./ Ga. Tech game with a friend - wearing his Auburn hat!!! Hope he gets home in one piece :)

Your son is a brave man! LOL!

I just re-read this entire thread, too. My goodness our team puts us through a lot, don't they? I've been doing what a lot of us have been doing and reading some of the commentary. I read an article last night that was written during the second quarter. The author wrote that "unless Auburn stages a tremendous comeback" [er, make that CAMback, please], Auburn will lose ... yada, yada, yada. There was a note at the bottom of the article: "Auburn DID stage a tremendous comeback and my article is obsolete." ROTFLOL!!! I haven't yet put my Toomer's pics up. I'll do that later today. I also have to go down to the basement and bring up the Advent wreath and candles. Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent. I love Christmas!

On thanks for the reminder - We do an advent wreath as well... I'm trying to switch into Christmas mode today.... yesterday I was just into left-overs and football :)

I'll look forward to seeing your Toomer's photos. There's nothing like the joy of celebrating with a street full of Auburn fans! Are you feeling better today?

So.... Is your mascot a Cat or a Buzzard? And why do you need them both?

With all due respect, do you WATCH college sports? And do any of these idiotic sports announcers who refer to the Auburn "War Eagles" do any homework?

Everyone acts as if Auburn is strange to have a team name and mascot, the Tigers, and a cheer, War Eagle - which is backed up with a real Eagle.

What about Georgia Tech, with the Yellowjackets and the Ramblin' Wreck, the real Model T Ford that drives in parades and onto the football field?

Alabama's the Crimson Tide, yet their mascot is an elephant?

Tennessee is the Volunteers, yet they bring out a Blue Tick Hound?

Harvard is both the Crimson and the Johns.

Yale is the Bulldogs and the Eli.

Stanford is the Cardinal and a tree?

Western Kentucky is the Hilltoppers, yet the mascot is a big red muppet?

University of Miami is the Hurricanes, yet the mascot is Sebastian the Ibis?

University of Virginia is the Cavaliers and the Wahoos?

Give me a little while to think and I could probably come up with another ten or twenty, which suggests that there are probably twenty or more schools that I know nothing about which have two mascots or names for their teams.

Why single out Auburn?

And by the way, I'm a Longhorn, as well as a Crimson/John.

Give it up for Nevada

I have a co-worker who graduated from Nevada-Reno. I can't wait to see him on Monday.

You forgot ‘Plainsmen’ for Auburn and ‘Engineers’ for Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech has ‘Hokies’ and ‘Gobblers’, but they are trying to forget the latter. As for Virginia, the word on Vinegar Hill is that a ‘Wahoo’ is a fish that drinks a lot.

Jemian,

Auburn wins the thread contest as well as the game. (Alabama didn’t show up)

I don't think Auburn has ever been the Plainsman (which comes the poem that refers to Auburn as "the loveliest village on the plains"). Alabama Polytechnic Institute, became Auburn University in 1960. API may have used the Plainsmen. If they did, the college's mascot was changed to the Tigers before 1960 - the "Aubie" tiger mascot first appeared on football programs in October 1959.

And as the father of a UVA graduate, yes, the wahoo is a allegedly a fish that can inhale large amounts of water to make itself larger and scare off predators. It's ability to 'drink' so much gives way to UVA nickname of Wahoos.

Most of my money went to pay tuition, but some it went towards a "Hoos" t-shirt.

As for Harvard's Crimson and the Johns, I swear there was a third name for the Athletic teams - but it's been a long time since I was a student, and I can't remember the other name, if, in fact, it existed.

Stanford is the Cardinal and a tree?

One minor correction here....Stanford is not THE Cardinal but simply Cardinal, the color, a shade of red. It's tough to have a color as a mascot, so they settled for a redwood tree, which do grow on the campus.

That's not as bad as the nearby Cal State Santa Cruz, which has a banana slug as mascot. It's really quite attractive with yellow and blue markings, but come on, it's still just a giant slug!

Here is the Link to My Toomer's Celebration Pictures on Facebook. Fun stuff.

I'm watching your videos and links next. I had to take a break to do a bit of yard work and decorating.
