Prices start at US $375
Notion Ink's Adam tablet has been filling the press lines for quite some time and it looks like that the wait is finally over as Slashgear is reporting that the device is finally ready for pre-order. The initial pre-order will be reserved for those that have been registered commenters on Notion Ink's blog and these will be the first ones to get the link, while others will have to wait a bit more.
In case you somehow managed to miss Notion Ink's Adam we are talking about a 10.1-inch LCD or Pixel Qi (1024x600) multi-touch screen device that is powered by Nvidia's Tegra 2 processor based on dual-core Cortex-A9 and ULP GPU, has 1GB of memory, 1GB of SLC flash memory and 8+GB of storage space. The rest of the long feature list includes a microSD slot, 3.2 megapixel swivel camera, stereo speakers, two USB 2.0 ports, mini USB, HDMI output, 3-axis accelerometer, ambient light sensor, GPS, digital compass, 802.11bgn WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and a 3-cell battery.
The Adam will be available in four versions, two with LCD and two with Pixel Qi screen. The difference is similar to the iPad so you'll either choose the one with WiFi only or the one that has 3G as well. The price starts at US $375.33 for the LCD/WiFi version and the US $425.33 for the LCD/WiFi+3G version. The PixelQi versions are a bit more expensive so you'll have to cash out US $499.45 for the one with WiFi and US $549.99 for the one that has both the WiFi and 3G.
Of course, Notion Ink didn't release an official ship-out date but Slashgear came forth and revealed that it should ship by January 6th next year, at least to those that pre-order it now. You can find it at Notion Ink's official web site, although it's a bit sluggish, probably as it is currently getting a lot of attention.
This looks pretty cool
Although this may be the first table with the Pixel Qi display.
Announcement comes from Slashdot rather than Notion Ink.
I have posted some threads about it...not sure if I can find them though.
So, what is Pixel Qi, and why is it worth the extra hundred bucks?
iPad killer from, uh, India? - But is there a market for a tablet computer?
I have been following them fairly close and it seems they are very deliberate about quality.
Notion Ink Eve will be even better (as if you didn’t guess)

I wonder if the diagram means that Pixel Qi is slightly worse than what they use in modern eBook readers.
And BTW, will Pixel Qi support sub-pixel anti-aliasing in reflective mode? Not that I cannot live without it, but still it would be nice.
answer: we have higher power consumption than electrophoretic technology, but the vast majority of power consumption in a screen comes from its backlight, with it off, the power savings are dramatic. Backlight can be turned off in room lighting and outside (the screen is sunlight readable). Of course anti-aliasing and sub-pixel rendering are supported. We are slightly dimmer than electrophoretic in dim room light, but in these cases the backlight can be turned on to the lowest setting (very low power) and the effect the screen appears similar to electrophoretics with the majority of light reflecting off the screen. In a totally dark room, the pixel qi screen can be seen and read using the backlight feature, unlike electrophoretics.
Interesting. Hopefully it will come with an ambient light sensor so the backlight dimming can be an automatic feature. I use my iPad mostly in normal room light, so any power savings would be welcome.
Notion Ink Adam stripped bare and our in-depth video hands-on

You have to have a pretty special product to get two Engadget posts discussing your wares during the maelstrom of CES, but this Adam thing just won't leave us alone with its Pixel Qi display, Tegra 2 innards and bona fide potential to blow the bloody doors off the homogeneous tablet market. We've gone back and grabbed video of the device in direct sunlight and it just kept on impressing us. The screen resolutely refused to be overpowered by the light, whether its backlight was on or off, but that was merely the tip of the iceberg as far as the happy impressions. Come past the break to find out more about buttery smooth 1080p playback (with a handy HDMI out), Notion Ink's plans for modifying the Android OS, and more on the likely pricing of the device which is set to land in quarter two of 2010. Oh, and yea -- we totally ripped it open and photographed the insides. Check that out below.
See link at #11...video some what rough....but they do show the display in sunlight.

Update 2: Notion Ink is fessing up to a lot of its missteps and telling its side of the story on its blog today. Apparently, they will be releasing a real video of the tablet on December 18th. We're not sure why they can't just do this today, but looks like we will continue to wait...
Disappointing....they are trying to do things Globally....which has got to have a big learning curve.
Thanks, that display must be awesome!
Weve Been Bamboozled! Process Delays Hit GPUs ( Why is it so hard?)
I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for the release of this beauty. It had been pushed back time and again over the past year or so.
Now I have no money.
