Mozilla also issued fixes for Thunderbird 3.1.7 and Thunderbird 3.0.11 yesterday. The updates are intended for Windows, Mac and Linux versions of the software.

I noticed. Lol. A bit annoying.

But it is still better than InternetExploder.

I wonder if these are incorporated already.

Did they finally fix the Thunderbird signature default color so that the font isn’t that dull gray color?

That’s a pain to fix and doesn’t always work. Doesn’t everyone want their sig to be a dull gray?

I have no clue on either of your questions....

Might need to check their Forums.

Not a user of Thunderbird.

or the Beta 4.

I just go with what Mint throws out...and depend on the service updates....

I use Mozilla’s half bastard crapshoot booger-build internet suite, Sea Monkey.

The last “Upgrade” was essentially a “downgrade” as it became really unstable and squirrely. It crashed a couple of times, at one point taking about 2 hours worth of work with it; shut windows down entirely and had to re boot. This Win. XP was acting like W-95 with a virus.
I was about to uninstall it and re install an older version which was bad, but not quite this bad.

Trouble is, everything else I’ve tried - Opera, Edora, Pegasus, Crazy Browser etc. is even worse!
Microsoft Malware Magnet? No thanks!

Thanks for the heads up; checked my upgrades and sure enough they have one for Sea Monkey too; currently downloading V.2.011 - all 13.1 MB of it.

Let’s hope this version works a little better, and is at least less of a PITA.

“I wonder if they fixed the memory devouring feature?”

I doubt they ever will. Each release is worse than the last. My guess is eventually FF will simply be crushed to death under its own weight.

That being said, I can’t live without it because of certain extensions. However, I can’t really recommend FF to Mom and Pop type non-techies.

I finally went back to 3.0.13, changed about a dozen hidden config settings, disabled almost all plugins (especially silverlight, set Adobe Flash to always ask when it wants to store data, and keep an eye on memory growth with statusbarex, periodically minimizing all FF windows manually with the actual minimize button and having set config.trim_on_minimize to TRUE in about:config. This latter actually works to trim memory, at least in 3.0.13. It didn’t seem to work in later versions. I’m pretty sure sliverlight and adobeflash were among the worse offenders, but by no means are the only things causing explosive and unmitigated memory growth.

At any rate, given the millions of google hits on this issue, it obvious the FF developers don’t know how to fix this problem or don’t care or both.

If they’d release 64-bit builds, I’d be right on it, but I’ve never been able to get a successful build locally.

Use the addon "Ramback". It solves the problem nicely.

Tried it. Didn’t work for me. Or a lot of other people. I think Ramback tries to simulate minimization. Memory Fox is Ramback’s successor by the same developer as ramback. That worked for me quite nicely but its external afom.exe part caused system instability on my computer, causing odd things to happen like sometimes preventing excel from starting when clicking on an .xls file.
