The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland will induct Tom Waits, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Dr. John, and Darlene Love, according to the New York Times. Jac Holzman, who founded Elektra, and Art Rupe, who founded Specialty Records, will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which is given to music-industry executives. Pianist Leon Russell will receive the Award for Musical Excellence. The ceremony will be held in March
Absolutely. Frankly I'm shocked neither one hadn't already been in the HoF.

The line between Pop music and Rock music can be a bit fuzzy, but Neil Diamond is not on the Rock side of that line. Does he have 'influence'? I guess... but there are a lot of acts that I'd personally put in before him.

The guy was an all-around music machine and major force.
What annoys me about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is its overrated criteria and points given for "edginess" and avant garde crap.
Even John Cougar-Mellencamp (ROCK in the USA) and Paul Simon (Me & Julio Down By The School Yard) copied Diamond's signature riffs.

That's a good point. But wasn't most music in the 60s "pop"? How is "Rock" defined? (rhetorically speaking)

I can respect your opinion in personal favorites, but geez - Diamond has been a huge "Rock" influence in that bridge between the 60s and 70s. There just weren't many screaming guitar rides back then.
